    Insulating the 1st floor

Hi I live in a flat/maisonette and have fitted Acoustilay 15 throughout even on the stairs (which took some doing). It's heavy and expensive but does the job very well. My neighbour downstairs loves me for it. I got mine on eBay. If you're buying any real quantity you'll need a van, 15 sheets...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

They are 60's pearloid made by the Italian company that made the originals. Cost about £50. Laser cut. I inlayed them with a mini router base on my Dremel and marked the lines with a sharp scalpel for definition

No I left the neck on as it would've ruined the finish on the back. I was trying to avoid as much touch up as possible

Well not strictly a woodworking project as such but it is made from Indian rosewood, and will probably bore to death most of you so apologies in advance for the story and feel free to skip. I've been developing my skills in the Luthiery dept. and the lockdowns have given me time to develop them...

Setup for a beginner - really long shopping list

Good list of tools here and exactly what I have in my workshop to build and repair guitars. A decent scroll saw is good for intricate pieces too. A dust extractor will be on your list, I bought Lumberjack Shop Vac and is great for the money (£100) The best router IMHO for what you are doing...

Lumberjack BS305 12" Bandsaw Unpacking, Assembly & First Impressions

I bought one of these last year, the fence on mine is rubbish. When I engage the locking lever it off sets by a couple of mm. and I can't get it to be true without using external clamps. I bought the Kreg fence system a couple of weeks ago, which was a mistake too as a) it's way too big and...

    Wood glue

I do mainly guitar and instrument repairs and use Titebond 1 and 3. I also use Fish Glue and the Titebond Cold Hide glue. I would like to master Hot Hide glue but it's quite a hassle and the working times are not suited to my patience level. I tend not to use epoxy because the golden rule for...

    Lumberjack or Record Power bandsaw

I've the Lumberjack band saw that you're looking at and use it for exactly the same purposes. The fence is rubbish when I clamp it down to do ripping of Uke/guitar sides it locks slightly off square and no matter what I do it won't behave. So now looking at the Kreg bandsaw fence system which is...

I use for my business MacBook an old Apple 2TB time machine, as well as a QNAP TS 251 RAID with 2 x WD red drives, and once a month use a 2TB portable drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, I also have Apple cloud storage for more important files. My...

    Electric vehicles

Why oh why are Hydrogen fuel cells being ignored? They re-fuel like petrol quickly, same range as diesel, and produce water as waste. I had a cab ride the other month in a Toyota that ran on Hydrogen and it was brilliant.

    I just bought an Axminster!

Hi Many thanks for the advice. Yes mine has a quick clamp, but the nylon bushes. It's hardly been used (ex school) so has an emergency stop button which I'll probably remove. Got it for £200 so I hope it's a bargain

    I just bought an Axminster!

Hi Folks, Just to say hello as I'm a newbie here, it looks like a great site and the font of all woodworking knowledge. I've just bought a S/H Axminster AWFS 18 on Ebay for £200. It looks in reasonable condition and I'm hoping to have great fun with it. I also bought a starter pack of Pegas...
