Silly question to ask a turner

I was asked a silly question for a turner. A lady came up to me and asked if I would like some walnut. being a turner the answer took all of 1 second to answer this question. A little recycling picked this little lot up today now totally knackered. It is walnut, has been laying there for about...

    wood piercing a wooden vessel

You can use a Dremel type tool but they can be uncomfortable to use for long periods but they do a good job. There are others out there like the micro tools and dentist type tools that I have heard are very good but can not comment on those as I have not used them. I have an Axminster tool...

    Tree bowl

You seem to have pulled it off Simon well done. i am working on a footstool at the moments as well as a leaf design on a bowl which is going to be pierced going to try 2-3mm thickness. So i would say that thin is the way to go even if it feels a little fragile.

    Foot stool

It only pushes it to the mid point of the corner post under the side is another piece of wood to hold it at the right height. Which would mean that the tenon could be up to 1" into the corner post which as you may appreciate would be too long for this application. The first option there are two...

    Foot stool

They will not be this close when fitted so any variation will not be so noticable. I did make a cardboard story board with measurements on so had that handy for this little job. Like most things the more that you do the better you become, practice practice practice as they say. I will stick to...

    Foot stool

Well I got the four done at last but not due to messing up but other things getting in the way. Not perfect match but close enough, I should imagine that with practice I could get things like this a little close as i am so use to doing one off's.

Gallery additions, the quest for me time.

The stool leg I made had to have a small design change due to a split so know what you mean. I have been lucky as on Sunday I was out and someone offered me a 12ft long trunk of yew. The 20 minutes later someone offered me a complete walnut tree with a trunk diameter of about 2ft both of these...

    Saw spot

Bandsaw is certainly the way to go. In conjunction with the use of a chainsaw I prepare all of my logs but remember PPE is advised whatever machine you use play safe.

    Foot stool

Spent most of the time preparing the wood and getting it square as well as the panel wood all thicknessed just need to saw that to the correct width. The top and cushioned top will be down to my sister not sure about the finish yet but may need to try and match it to her other oak furniture.
