    Foot stool

I did sand the inside surfaces before the glue up but should have wet it and re-sand before the gluing. As for applying finish that is something I can't remember from school whether to apply before or after the glue up. Never had any problems doing it either way with many of my wooden models...

    Foot stool

All glued up with the bottom fitted. next job before any finish is the start of the top as I will not be doing the padded seat/top. It still needs a good final sanding

    Would You

Not everything turns out OK but unless you try you will never know I know that when I took that first step it was very nerve racking. As soon as this is finished i will show it again

    Would You

Would you do this to a burr. I would point out this piece is not yet finished. If yes why and if No why not. It will be interesting to see peoples point of view. Please respect other peoples reasons

    Just starting - chuck problems.

I had some screw stuck on my RS chuck and just put a drift in the centre and gave it a couple of sharp taps this freed them up with no problems

Gallery additions, the quest for me time.

Blimey Chas I am surprised that you have any wood left at the rate you are turning them. Again some nice pieces but then I would be disappointed if they were anything else but good well turned and finished work from you =D> =D> =D> I am still converting wood so not much in the turning side...

    Part 2 of the walnut

Well Thursday came and went but no yew. Not to panic rearrange to go today. Yet more wood having a great month for collecting. I think I am becoming a wood hoarder. So I went out today and looked at the yew log I mentioned the other day which is 12foot but only came back with this pile. I can...

    dust and woodchip extraction.

A full face air powered respirator would be my first choice then an extractor of some kind. The more you can use the better

    Two in One

I just got my woodturning magazine today and I knew that "The Glade" piece of mine was going to be in there as an feature, but also surprised to see another piece in the "From the forum". So I am very pleased

    dust and woodchip extraction.

It is better than nothing but do you take it off the moment you stop sanding or do you leave it on for a period until the airborne dust has settled

    Using a Lathe

Nice piece of work bobajobob. That is the reason I made this post in the beginning, I think there needs to be a equal mix of questions and people posting there work but it just seems that so many only answer the technical questions and don't seem to do any turning.

    dust and woodchip extraction.

For the best results there are three items you need for a good dust extraction and protection. The first is the chip removal type of extractor which most of the time will not collect straight from the lathe when turning except the dust when sanding but is still very useful in a wood shop. The...

    Yorkshire grit / burnishing Cream

The only problem with Yorkshire grit and cut n polish is that you are restricted to using wax finishes no good if you want to use any other type of finish. If I want a wax finish I will finish my piece by properly sanding and getting that right then add a wax finish that means you don't need to...

    Part 2 of the walnut

Well been in the storage sheds and started to sort out the one up the garden is done and the walnut is now all in undercover. Just need to look at the other one to see if I can make some room in there for the Yew when I get it on Thursday

    Part 2 of the walnut

Well having got the walnut home it was time to rough cut ready for conversion into turning material. So this is where I am at as of today, I would have been further ahead but Saturday I spent the day at our turning club watching a demo by Mark Sanger, then yesterday I was out with the wife...
