File as a skew - safety concern

If it was sold as a skew and not a modified file go back to the seller. I certainly would not entertain using it. Unless someone knows what they are doing then buy the proper tool for the job

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

I am busy restoring a cheap wooden fire surround for a family member as I get given free wood from them so a little return from me. Then hopefully back to some more turning Have a few ideas I want to play with

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

As always some great pieces Chas. I like the slimmer lid on this one just suits the form. The coin really shows the size of some of them

Post a photo of the last thing you turned (!)

Thank you Chas I was looking for the other one I had which explained in better detail but I have so many files I was going cross-eyed. Sorry for not getting back to you see my reply to CHJ above. As for wood as already mentioned it is the dust that can cause many of the problems in the...

    Hollow form

Not done a hollow form for quite a while so thought about time I did another. Made from field maple for the main body, American black walnut for the top and beech for the finial. Was going to colour the finial but liked it the way it looked contrasting against the lid. The bottom has a little...

I will also add to what CHJ has stated. If you intend to let them as rattles the ends need to be a certain diameter. I have a PDF which the site will not allow me to post that will give the sizes. Take into consideration the finish that you use on them if any. We are not trying to put you off...

    Yew bowl

The bowl was a piece that a friend gave me ages ago and while down his house I rough turned it. It has sat in my rough turned pile for over a year now so should be quite dry. I can do different wait until the next piece

    Yew bowl

This bowl was turned last week and then given three coats of Danish Oil and then left to dry today I finished it off by giving it a Buff. It measures 7 1/2" X 3"

    Startrite 352 bandsaw

I will not repeat what has been said but if you use a blade to constantly cut circles in the same direction you will find that the set is changed. Also is the blade small enough for the diameter that you want to cut as a 1/4" blade will cut a much smaller radius than a 5/8" blade

Another nice bowl I like this simple shape just nestles in the hand.

I have a lathe that the head can be swivelled and if I want to turn it I only do so for a small amount so that I am turning away from the bed but I only ever turn it enough so that I use the tool rest without having to resort to using the outboard tool rest. This allows me to use longer tools as...

It is surprising what can be missed until a photo is taken. Looks pretty good from here. The shape will develop over time. Why are you using the extension on a smallish piece?

Blimey Chas are you making up for lost time    Some very well turned pieces but then I expect nothing less from you

    Blade broke

I have other blades for this bandsaw just did not realise that I was out of the one I needed. Just a pain in the A**e but at least tomorrow I can go and do some turning or carving. Or if the weather is nice I might cut up some more Yew and Holly logs, but if I do that I will have nowhere to put...

    Blade broke

Just when I am getting into cutting my Walnut and Yew blanks into rounds the bandsaw breaks now I need to wait for a replacement. And I still have 11+ Yew blanks to cut as well as a good quantity of the Walnut most of them will be around the 9" to 12" once I get back and cut them.
