    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

Like yourself I think I am starting to work through the woodpile and yet more seems to appear. Yesterday my Uncle appeared with a bag of Oak which is suitable for some small bowls and other bits with the possibility of more in the future. So maybe some more salt and pepper on the menu.

    Salt and Pepper set

The strange thing about these and it was purely accidental. I placed one down on the table but upside down and it rolled and righted itself so tried with the other one and it did the same. I did this a number of times one to see if it was a fluke and the second it was just fun to see it :lol...

    Salt and Pepper set

It is on top of the pedestal as a handle. I did think of a mustard pot but could not find on insert and spoon suitable, then I would have done a circular base again with the jack as the handle

    Salt and Pepper set

I have quite a few bowls balls so I set myself a task of making a salt and pepper set from just one of them. They measure 4 1/4" one way and 5" the other as they are not true circles, by cutting one in half I managed to get each pot from those and now they measure 2 1/4" each. The pots are...

Food safe woods around the world

I know that people have asked for advice on woods for food and it may have been done to death but this is a small piece of research. There are going to be some that will say this is what I use but I am sure there are so many other woods other than those we deem as homegrown What woods from...

    Chucks jaws

    Resin and spalted beech

You could even finish the outside and put butterflies over the crack which will hold it an make a feature of it. The turn the bowl around and do the inside. This is a bowl I did quite a while ago. The small one on the bottom right was filled with coffee grounds and CA glue

    Bog oak polish.

If you go this route which CHJ has suggested then make sure it is a lint free cloth and not a fluffy type duster as you will end up with bits of fluff stuck in the pours. Or as already suggested a proper buffing brush

    Jigs for turning

I am starting another turning project and realised that I need some way of holding a sphere so that I can hollow them. If the wood was large enough I could have hollowed after turning the outside. Anyway around the problem is a doughnut jig, while I am at it some kind gentleman from another...

I have the versachuck as well and the great thing is they supply various carriers for the most common jaws from different manufacturers. I use Robert Sorby and Axminster on mine. I even went to the trouble of making a rack for them. It now is on the wall :P
