    Rounded opening hollow form

I like the shape of the hollow form it is well preportioned, but feel that the little base does nothing for it. As for the staining, the black is good but would like to see maybe a red, blue or green complementary colour. Other than that a good piece but please remember this is just my thoughts...

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

Nice little box Chas. it is good to be able to get into the shed and spin a little wood, I have been lucky as I have managed to do a little of the garden and a lot more shed time. Just started preparing something for another project

    Pinch Pots

The only pictures I have are these while making another project. I have three front plates all with different sized centre holes. it is only a small one but can be made any size to suit your needs and lathe. Remember to keep the lathe speed down especially with smaller lathes if it vibrates too...

    Pinch Pots

They are turned out I held it in a small doughnut chuck which makes moving it from one to the other easy just marked the centre so that I could use the tailstock to centre each side. An extra photo from a higher angle showing the inside

    Pinch Pots

Decided to make a couple of Salt and Pepper pinch pots but with lids. The main body has two turned recesses out of Sapele, the lids are American Black Walnut the black knob is African Blackwood and the white is Acrylic as I did not have any real white wood to hand. The base is finished with...

    Two Faced

Thank you all. The slate drill very easy the problem being is getting a drill bit the correct size as they tend to drill the hole oversize but the next one down is too small, so I drilled the smaller size and made my own bit using an offcut of the rod. Do not attempt to drill using the drill...

    Two Faced

Thank you all. A close up of the centre burrs before fitting. The two discs colour is about right

    Two Faced

I had a thin piece of Oak which sat in the wood store for ages you know the type "I will do something with that one day". Anyway, I named this two-faced as the disc can be turned around. The centres one green and one red are from a very small burr that I cut into 1/2" thick pieces for use in...

    SIP 38/2011 wood lathe

Chronos is another place to get drive centres from MT1 drive centre and Steb drive and revolving centres. As there is no through hole when using these buy a thread protector/extractor to screw onto the exposed thread

    New to woodturning

Sorry to disappoint you but three of those are not turning chisels and the forth (skew) could be homemade from a file which could be dangerous. The bottom three are woodworking chisels. Not what you want to hear. I know they be a little more expensive but buy from a good woodworking shop that...

they might be very good, but ...

Only because they are discontinued why can't they just remove it from the site a bit like some on eBay cheaper to keep the ad going than repost when stocks are available

    New to woodturning

A thread protector will not help in removing a chuck or faceplate, the protector is removed when using a faceplate or chuck. But it is an essential piece to have for turning between centres and using a 2 or 4 pronged drive centre.

    New to woodturning

I agree that it is a good chuck and has the facility to change the backplate if upgrading as well as being able to take various makes of jaws, but it is a heavy chuck maybe a lighter one for this lathe

    Unknown wood

I have managed to get quite a bit of time in the shed lately which makes a change. I am not sure where this wood came from but I have a couple of pieces of this and this is the first to be turned. I tried to keep the form simple to show off the wood. A nice simple finish of sander sealer and...

    Chestnut vase

Just finished this Chestnut Burr today it stands 6 1/2" tall by 6 1/2" across. Finished with sander sealer and satin lacquer, I then gave it a wax with woodwax22 as the satin finish was not what I wanted but the high gloss would have been too glossy. C & C Welcome
