    Carving tool advice?

As Chris above said a spoon gouge is ideal for inside the bowl whereas a normal straight gouge is ideal for the outside and rim. When I say straight gouge that is the shaft is straight but the working end can be from a flat to quite a heavy sweep (curve of the tip across the chisel) . To give an...

    Hollowing tool recommendation please

I think you need to define medium size as to many it will mean different things. Also for large pieces do you have a supply of blanks. Also many people have their own opinions of tools as they only have the one so do not have anything to compare to. I have the crown system and for me and the...

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

I will just be glad when I feel like getting into the workshop. I have so many ideas running around the inside of my head at the moment especially as all I am doing is sitting here the mind does not stop thinking of new ideas.

No need to regrind it leave it how it is it is designed to be used on spindle work to bring it into round for any other work like beads and cover on spindle work use skew chisel, spindle gouges( different from the spindle roughing gouge) And as I stated bowl gouge for bowls. Bowl gouges can...

    Roughing gouge for bowls

The true name for the roughing gouge you have is "Spindle Roughing gouge" it is not designed for cross-grain applications or bowl turning. It only has a tang to hold the handle on. which can snap if you get a major catch which is more likely the way you are using it. Never under any circumstance...

    Angels and Miners

I don't like copying people as I stated elsewhere but had to make these on the request of the wife(well you have to keep them happy don't you? I must remember that when I get the magazine in future is to hide it) from the woodturner magazine last year by Colwyn Way. The angels are 17" to the tip...

    Duplicating Fingers

For something like this, I would make my own a bit like my router jig for fluting. Besides that, once you get the hang of making duplicates it becomes easier to do without jigs.

Another for an excellent service is THIS supplier I have used Dave on many occasions and if there is a problem a quick phone call normally sorts it out. I say quick as you can end up chatting for ages

Would it be a stupid idea ...

If you can't do it get someone to fabricate one for you much safer than trying it with wood
