Is this motor Ok for my Myford ML8

Thank you for that I did wonder about the rpm, there wasn't a data plate on the motor so the details were taken of the body of the machine, I half though it was a bit too quick hence the question. The other alternative is a largish 1/2 HP motor that trundles round at 1425, does that have enough...

Is this motor Ok for my Myford ML8

I've just been given a 1500 Watt x 4500rpm motor to replace the 3phase motor as fitted to my ML8. As I understand it 1500w equates to 2h.p., so I would assume thats man enough, but what is your thoughts on the rpm please. The motor was salvaged from a damaged Clark tablesaw. Gareth

    Saw Etch

On the enlarged photo (click it) I can make out what might be an U and an O in a curve over where I would expect the logo to be.

Most used thing you have ever made.

I hope this won't cause too much gnashing of teeth because its steel work! Having just spent 30 odd years making steel gates railings, and other fabrications, this little gadget has been with me since my first month. Basically we have 99mm of 25 x 25 x 5mm square root angle, with two pieces of...

In Praise of the No 6 Plane

I don't have a No 6 (donations always accepted :-), but I do like the wooden versions that are the same length. I got a couple of very cheap No 3s', which I now prefer to a block plane. I occasionally use my 5, but the 4 just sits and waits.

    Imperial bolt / spanner sizes

They have started to reduce the metric head size now, beginning to see 12mm bolts with an 18mm head, being used in CE approved steel work.

    BSP Tap Set

I always thought that model engineering used their own ME threads, even in the larger scales as BSP & BSW are too coarse, or are you constructing 12" to the foot? If so we want pictures.

    angle grinder capabilities

A 1/16 slitting disc will do the job nicely, remember to prevent the wok from spinning and do not fire the sparks at glass as they will stick on it and will leave rusty particles.

    Spitfires are so distracting!

All this week at regular intervals a Spitfire has flown across the Island, several times a day, occasionally obliging with a few aerobatics. This afternoon on site, I was able to enjoy him doing a loop or two as well as the usual turns and rolls almost directly overhead. Yesterday we had a...

I bought a new (old) plane, and found some strange damage.

I have a plane with not dissimilar marks in the sole which were caused by it sitting on wet corrugated cardboard for a awhile.

Mozilla Firefox is killing off my Gmail

I have done a little bit more digging and it may be something called a 'redirect virus', but I couldn't find it in my 'add-ons' manager, which is supposedly where it goes and maybe why I have Google back and. Apparently it can also affect Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge as well, so I am not...

Mozilla Firefox is killing off my Gmail

Hi Dave I found where to change updates from automatic to owner approved which I have now done. I have even found a button that will disconnect my old fsnet address which is no longer working anyway, but I'm not sure what will happen if I push that one, as it seems and is linked to my Firefox...

Mozilla Firefox is killing off my Gmail

Apparently Mozilla Firefox dumped Google in favour of Yahoo as its search engine in the U.S., as a result, since a recent update of Firefox my Gmail is now all but useless and for awhile the automatic search engine was Yahoo which I found dreadful. I was able to get Google back, by setting my...

Are pipe clamps a thing in the UK?

I don't know the exact diameter required, but any good steel stockist should be able to get you a suitable pipe in the ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) range of tubing. Buy a standard 6 meter stock length and make a range of sizes, and you can get it in self colour.

This bolt is driving me nuts

I am fairly sure that Singer used their own threads, ensuring that you had to buy their spares.

    Simple bench planing stop

I doubt if I have invented it, but I needed a simple way of having a bench planing stop, preferably one I could use in conjunction with my vice. I have got an old Woden screw raise type, but I didn't want all the hassle of letting it in, so I have improvised using an off cut of 50 x 6 f/b (other...

    Kindle gone U/S

I think the oldest book on my shelves is a French treatise on fortifications dated 1650. I might not understand the language, but the pictures are good, and even after 370 years or so its still instant access.
