    RCD keeps tripping out

We had a new kitchen fitted out four years ago from the bare walls up, new wiring included. After about 18 months the RCD started tripping, we got our man in and he checked things and declared them fine, but looked suspiciously at the dish washer. New arrangements were made for that and we...

    Unseizing cast iron wheels

Now the rust is off inspect it for cracks, wheel castings like that were pretty poor from new, often full of air bubbles in the spokes. I doubt very much if the electrolysis got anywhere near the two bearing surfaces of hub and axle.

    Unseizing cast iron wheels

You will need to be careful using heat as the axle can expand quicker than the surrounding wheel and crack the casting that way. Unless you are in love with the stub axles, get somebody to drill and turn them out if there is no sign of movement.

Customer demanding rebuild after 7 months of use or refund.

I second what deema has said. Customers are always right even when wrong. Offer to take the item back at cost, (which often brings on a rethink by the customer) and try to reclaim as much as possible by selling on. Otherwise you can get into a vicious circle and nobody wins or comes out happy

    Metalwork dust/air extraction

You have to be slightly careful with weld fume extractors, I have seen a couple of ducting fires because of weld sparks being sucked up the tubing.

Flex SBG 4910 or Femi 782XL

If you want repeatable accurate cuts in metal section you need a slow speed, bladed, non portable chop saw, with coolant pump. These do not burn the section as the grinder types do, but revolve slowly cutting the section. In fact they revolve so slowly you can put your finger gentle on the blade...

A business idea - Your thoughts

Any square thats needs to certified for use within a company, would need to be certified by the companies approved testers. Outside I wouldn't pay extra for a mazac framed square, they are regarded as a disposable item. If you know you need a square better than 'construction' grade, you want...

What did you do in your workshop today ?

What did you do in your workshop today ?

I have just finished a kitchen storage cupboard for the wife. It all made from shed supplied 'pine', and my good lady doesn't want doors on it. Went reasonably well, apart from some of the interesting shapes some of timber wanted to wind itself into, - a good learning curve. There are a couple...

Who still uses a safety razor?

The most expensive safety razor on the bay is an eye popping £270.00, but does come with a little stand. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Feather-WS-D1S-Stainless-Steel-and-Wood-Japanese-Made-Double-Edge-Safety-Razor-/282020893427?hash=item41a9c152f3:g:qs4AAOSwyQtV3Eh9 I wish I a direct connection to...

    Remake of Preston Router Plane

Judging by the prices old hand routers are making on the bay, they are not considered that way out. I like the thought that has gone into the new offering, shame I'll never be able to justify the cost of one.

Who still uses a safety razor?

Chatting with a group of mates the other day I happened to mention my preferred method of shaving was with a safety razor. This was met with a mixture of incredulity and horror, with the most sensible reply being "Can you still get the blades". My explanation that in my opinion nothing can beat...

    Lizards - Help please - DON'T laugh!

A couple of years ago my wife came home to find an exotic snake wrapped around the door handle, she thought it was plastic till the head came up and hissed at her - PANIC! One hysterical phone call later and I have driven the eight miles back from work to find what turned out to be a very...

It really is another world, isn't it?

If we leave we must actively work towards the breakup of the EU and collapse the Euro, regardless of the consequences. For too long the nations whose shores are lapped by the Mediterranean have lived as parasites off the northern nations. If we don't leave we must collapse it from the inside!

    50% more in Scotland?

Years ago, a chap I worked with in the boat yard had a folding steel three foot rule made like my steel two foot, he was Scottish - local thing?

    No. 3 Plane

Well I use one because I got two Record versions for £15, sharpened the blade on one, and now I find I use it more than a block plane. The other is in quiet repose.

Any idea what this is/these are?

Machinist parallel bars, often made as apprentice test pieces, - well thats why I made mine. Never used them as I wasn't a machinist.

Well at least Her Maj' is supporting British suppliers, unlike the MOD.
