    Another bargain!

Blimey I wish I still had my late fathers pair if thats the price. Now I know why a so called mate pinched them when I loaned them to him for model boat making

The holy grail of steel rulers

I don't know for certain, but I suspect it is because the American market is and will remain Imperial, it was the case for the aircraft industry when I was in that.

The holy grail of steel rulers

Never ever used centipedes, its meters and mills and that includes munching 14 meter steel beams to the required size. Or Imperial depending on who is holding the tape with me.

Latest unusual axe ? Medieval Halberd ?

Having googled halberds and poleaxes, the one thing that is notable in the above example is just how much mass and depth there is in front the shaft. Most long shaft weapons seem to come with a counter balancing spike or hammer and the blade edge would be much closer to the shaft. The example...

    Fly Tipping

One of the most stupid of the mantra's chanted by the greens is 'The polluter must pay' and that has contributed greatly to the fly tipping scandal. The more toxic, undesirable,or just plain disgusting the waste the more desirable it is that it is disposed of correctly. If there was a reward for...

    Sorry I can't :D

    Looking for a decent apron

They are probably the least restrictive and most adjustable work garment you could don, if you go for the neck loop and waist tie type. You can even fold the bib out of the way.

    Looking for a decent apron

+1 for leather aprons, mine is now so old I have no idea where it came from. Definitely no pockets, head loop and around the waist only, sometimes I fold the 'bib' part down and tuck it behind the skirt and wear it that way. I also have a couple of light canvas ones that were free issue when I...

    Mystery object

It is quite likely it was a 'bolt on' part so may not be attributable to a particular vehicle maker.

    Mystery object

I agree it is more likely off a lorry than a car. The dear old Bedford QL had a wire operated arm that came out for left turns, nothing so sophisticated as vacuum operated. I have just upgraded my vacuum wipers to electric on my 1951 Bedford K type, they will not be missed.

    Scrap Diesel cars

Never said lead was good for you, but unleaded is no better. When I was doing my nurse training we were told quite categorically ingesting unleaded fuel will cause stomach tumors eventually, so no more siphoning. It was the fuel industry that wanted unleaded because there is more profit in it...

    Scrap Diesel cars

Ah Greenpeace who campaigned so that we all adopted unleaded petrol, one of the most toxic fluids in general use. Based on a scientific report allegedly sponsored by the oil companies that showed lead levels in the blood streams of inner city kids was about the same as that endured by the Anglo...

    Bench drill

Are you able to sell it and get a bench mounted version?

friends insisting I start using power tools

There are only two considerations as I see it 1, If you are a professional are you making sufficient money for your requirements, and hopefully enjoying the work. 2, If a hobbyist are you enjoying your hobby. The 'friend's' question is rather like asking a cyclist why he hasn't got a motorbike.

    Lidl (Parkside) Pillar Drill.

I have got mine to drill up to 5/8" into 1/4" steel plate by going up in stages, but the problem I have with my machine is the table slipping down the column, so for drilling steel I put a block under it. It's a machine that reflects its price.

    Serious lathe....

I hope someone buys it, it seems such a shame to scrap it.

    Lovely new ruler (not)

I remember being taught that a Ruler dictated a country, whilst a rule dictated measurement.
