Hi Mark What in particular do you want to know? In the meantime you may like to read this blog that was written about the making of a sash window http://slidingsash.blogspot.com/search? ... -results=7 Cheers Malcolm

    Ashes

Good to see at least one other cricket fan on here. Never seen it mentioned before. I'd more or less given up after the pathetic showing in the last test and what seemed like a poor batting display yesterday, but what a turnaround today! We're in an extremely good position now but I don't expect...

Buying a workshop unit, what to offer?

Thanks for the advice on the offer, very helpful. I have the most experience in running a business, albeit a one-man business, therefore I have taken it upon myself to do the business plan etc. The other two both have experience of working in joinery shops, and site fitting, but their main...

Buying a workshop unit, what to offer?

Many thanks for all the replies and all the excellent advice. I spent last night trying to write a business plan and doing a cashflow forecast, a bit of a headache but I seem to be getting there slowly. The rent now – buy later option has its attractions but would I have as much leverage on...

Buying a workshop unit, what to offer?

Thanks for the replies so far. I've known my 2 partners for 24yrs and 10yrs and we're all good friends. I've run the business on my own for 29yrs and have to find a new workshop as I'm being kicked out. The others are both joiners and kitchen fitters on contract work and the idea is for them to...

Buying a workshop unit, what to offer?

Knowing the wide variety of occupations of readers of this forum I'm sure there must be those who have experience of buying and selling business property and hope that someone can help me. I am about to put in an offer for a workshop on an industrial estate and would like to know the best way...

    Acupuncture

Hi, Can I ask a couple of questions. It sounds like a great success but what was your problem beforehand and why did you go for acupuncture? Was it as a last resort as it is a slightly rare treatment here. Was it on the NHS? I'd be interested to know for when my body finally falls apart :)...

    Oak Alcove Units

Dan Couldn't you cut a hole in the unit back slightly larger than the socket box and then trim round with a suitably sized rebated moulding to avoid touching any wiring and leaving a neat finish? Cheers Malcolm

free oak offcuts on offer - now gone

Hi Chris - Chill For some reason I don't seem to have received your PM but I have offered the oak to BigSoftMoose as he is just up the road to me. The value of the wood is not worth a long journey. Sorry, Cheers Malcolm

free oak offcuts on offer - now gone

Mike I think I would really struggle to make those pieces from this wood. I might be able to make a few panels but there is not much 2" stuff for the framework. These offcuts have been taking up valuable space on my racks for between 1 and 3 years so that I have to put new deliveries on the...

free oak offcuts on offer - now gone

I've finally had a clearout of my oak offcuts. I don't know if they are of any use to anyone. Probably only useful for small projects or long thin projects. Most of it is not planed. Being oak there is usually some defect or other in most pieces. It's not worth using a lot of petrol to pickup...

    internet banking

My business a/c is with RBoS and any payments I make arrive immediately at the recipients bank. I can see this when I transfer to my personal a/c at Lloyds and when my daughter bought a car. She phoned me from the seller's house and gave me the bank details. I paid for the car with my RBos a/c...

    Making sash windows

Modern Practical Joinery by George Ellis. It's about 100 years old which in this case is an advantage as it doesn't include modern shortcuts (i.e. poor design) although that also means double-glazing not included either. Available from Amazon. Cheers Malcolm

    Box Sash Windows

If you have a morticing machine it is a doddle to taper the mortice sides. Make a wedge 10-12" long, the same thickness as the stile and the same angle as the glue wedges. Drill the face side of the mortice normally and put the large wedge underneath the stile to mortice the back side. Hey...

    Box Sash Windows

Hi Andy All joinery tenons are wedged to keep the joint tight should the glue fail over the years, belt and braces. It's also convenient when assembling the sash to knock the wedges in and remove the cramps without waiting for the glue to dry. Cheers Malcolm
