Startrite 301, Kity 613 or other?

Hey all, I've been looking for a band saw for some time, i've watched the 352 go up a fair price as i was waiting to find one local in decent condition and now the price budget is closer to the 301. I was pretty set on a startrite due to the sturdy build and seeming ease of finding...

what do the startrite name affixes mean ?

Can't seem to find the information online, i'm wanting to find out what the affixes mean on the older models without going that the manuals and trying to pinpoint the differences. For example, i have seen ad's for 351, 351E, 351SE, 351SB and a few scattered forum posts saying each model is quite...

Old bandsaw to keep an eye for?

Unfortunately £500~ would be me pushing it up to the tippy toppy of my budget, but ill keep an eye out for then, its another name to watch for used. Im not wanting for any small business to go under but i am anticipating a bunch of small workshops selling up due to c-19 so ill be keeping a hard...

Old bandsaw to keep an eye for?

I can see over the years its been recommended a lot as a well built, cheap, bandsaw and the prices i've seen seem a lot higher than they should be. I've only seen 2 not on ebay and within a realistic distance in 6 months~. One was £450 and needed repairs, one was about double that, i should...

Old bandsaw to keep an eye for?

Hello all, I'm finally starting to look for a bandsaw with an ok budget and i'd rather buy used to maximise bang for buck. Im curious what opinions people have on older bandsaws that would be found used and which to look out for around £300-500. I really like the 352, the slimmer profile would...

A dilemma 8" grinder vs 2x72" Belt grinder

I believe 2x72 is more of a US standard belt size, not so much over here. I couldn't tell you what it is here but i know there are large belts more industry standard. Can't help with names as they're way way out of my price range.

Noob looking for a low-budget machine

Thats very kind, thank you and for the offer and for the help and advice! Good to know about the wheels, i know a machine like that is made for sharpening and not shaping but i have seen them get the job done albeit slowly. I've been trying to find a cheap band-saw second hand for a few weeks...

Noob looking for a low-budget machine

Thanks again! Im not sure how i overlooked that one in my past searches for grinders, seems reasonably priced, can the wheels be changed out if and when they get ground down (thinking more the grey stone wheel) ? I like making my own carving tools but filing a file smooth can be tedious at the...

Noob looking for a low-budget machine

Thank you all for the links and advice, i have spoken to both the clubs in Christchurch for details and the people i spoke to at both seemed lovely and welcoming. I have been trying to build up to going but i am quite literally socially ********, part of the reason for support workers setting...

Noob looking for a low-budget machine

Evening all, I have recently been tasked with finding a new hobby and documenting progress, for various reasons, by my support worker and after a lot of thought i came to wood turning. I like that i can use recycled and salvaged materials, its a solo hobby, it smells like wood, its ideal to say...
