    All That Glitters ............... BBC

I think the big problem is TV companies seeking to 'repurpose' comedians as presenters. Generally, this has proved a disaster! I like Catherine Ryan - as a comedian. She has the wry approach of a Canadian over the 'in yer face' attitude of an American. But look at all the other quiz and...

I assume you are posting this as an April Fool joke question?

Best fixings for Breeze Block (or at least that’s what I call it)

Am I the only one that thinks this sounds a very expensive way of dry-lining a garage?! Plywood? Unless you are planning on using 6mm ply, it's going to cost a fortune. I assume you are doing this mainly for insulation and appearance. In which case, why not use PU-backed plasterboard? It's...

    Used Electric Cars

The one thing you will find is that the vast majority of people who own EVs wouldn't consider going back to ICE. I am in this category but I'm no environmental nut! If what I do benefits the environment, then I'm happy, but I certainly wouldn't spend lots more money just to be 'green'. So...

    Adding potentiometer to bench grinder.

I'm still wondering why the OP wants to do this. As I recall from my workshop practice sessions decades ago, grinding wheels, like cutting tools, have a preferred cutting speed to produce clean cuts (which is what carborundum is doing on a microscopic scale) and avoid clogging etc. If his aim...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

I was definitely ahead of my time. The first Ipod? Home-made crystal set (with genuine adjustable "cat's whisker"), pair of army surplus headphones and I was off listening to the Light Programme...

You guys must be heavy drinkers...

Perhaps surprisingly, the climate here (UK) is proving to be very favourable for white wines, especially the sparkling ones. There are several companies that beat the traditional Champagne makers in international competitions year after year. The only reason I don't drink more of it is that...

    Covid - "pure luck"

I would have thought that most pilots were ex-virgins by the time they qualify...

    Maths Question!!!

Yes, it would make sense for the OP to check this with the boards he is intending to buy and adjust the calculations accordingly. For example, my calculation for 150mm boards came out to 91 lengths. If the actual measured 'cover' turned out to be 135mm, then he would need 150 / 135 * 91 = 101...

    Maths Question!!!

I have obviously misunderstood the original problem! When the OP says he wants to "clad the underside of a pitched ... roof", I understand that to mean the two rectangular areas that make up the two halves of the roof. So I don't understand these comments about the boards "...getting shorter...

    Electric vehicles

Just a quick note about regenerative braking. There are two main aspects to adjusting the level of this. The first is personal; you may find full regeneration a bit too fierce for your driving style, especially at lower speeds. Personally, I find I quickly adjusted my driving style and find...

    Imperial vs Metric

I will not add to the arguments above. As an engineer, I deal almost entirely in metric measurements - and yet, having been schooled during the 50s - I still find that when estimating small distances, it is much more natural to think "that's about three inches", rather than "that's about...

    Bathroom ceiling.

Don't know where you've been looking, but the Manrose MF100 at £63 is rated at 245m³ per hour, which equates to 8,650 cu ft per hour! (I take it that was a misprint - that your bathroom had an area of 688 sq ft? A bathroom of 34ft x 20ft would be quite some bathroom!)

    Kity K5 TCT saw blade

Many thanks to all responders. I was wondering about the "don't use with cup flanges" but now I understand. The flanges on my Kity look like cups but are actually flush with the blade right down to the centre, so I guess that problem wouldn't arise. I will now try to find a blade I can afford!

    Kity K5 TCT saw blade

Hi - I am having great difficulty locating a 200mm (or similar) saw blade for my 1982 K5 as it has a 15mm spindle and everything seems to be for 16mm or larger! I have found some adapter rings for 15mm, but they are apparently only suitable for Trend saw blades with dire warnings about using...
