    free photoshop

Feel a bit ambivalent here. Agreed that the original idea was illegal, but have a lot of sympathy with those legit PS users (I'm one, or rather WAS one) who got dumped by Adobe when Win 7 came along. I was running Elements 7 at the time, which had only been out for a year or so but would not...

    Hornbeam

Also used for stakes (formers) in jewellry making on account of its hardness and close grain which does not transfer to softer metals like silver.

How to fit handrail into newel posts?

Was just going to suggest loose/false tenons, but the honorable Jacob beat me to it.

    Leaving Tools Behind!

Got sent a link to a KLM video which claimed that they now had a dog at Schipol that was used to trace the owners of items left on planes that had landed there. Looked too good to be true (didn't check the date - could have been April 1) but maybe owners of dogs and tools could adopt the idea?

    Leaving Tools Behind!

At least they didn't come back and turn the place upside down looking for the tools! One of the guys who was roofing an extension for us some 40 years ago suddenly reappeared in the evening, rushed up the scaffolding and started taking off the slates as he was sure he'd lost his wallet and that...

    Stained veneer

Was also going to suggest oxalic acid, but it looks like the OP has already sanded through the veneer, so will need also to do something to hide the patch of ground. Maybe find an old treatise on graining??

6 minute video good projecty and made a good start oftheday

yes, I'm sure she is, which rather distracts attention from her "interesting" attitude to safety. I'll leave it to others to make the complete list of dangerous practices :( .

    Skoda Scout

+1for the annoyance at nobody publishing load lengths. And why, oh why, do so many manufacturers have folding mechs that DON'T leave a flat floor (includes the Yeti!)?

Am I the only one that thinks this is scary!

More useful one in ScotAds - 22" TCT blade driven by a Lister diesel! If the guy didn't want £1000 for it..............................

    How to print on wood

The Samsung domestic level colour lasers say very firmly "do not use photo paper"

    Skoda Scout

Yes, that's the nearest alternative it seems. But it's that bit bigger again than the Skoda. Trouble is every model seems to grow in length and complexity with each passing year. Who wants electronic parking brake, push button starting, built-in satnav that doesn't know where the roads are in...

    Skoda Scout

Thanks, guys. I always used to have Volvos, but their 4x4 versions are all that bit too big (and the shortest, the XC60 looks HIDEOUS!). I'm sure your Disco has been fine, Stu, but I've seen too many dead and dying ones round here (plus don't have the oil well to feed one)

    Skoda Scout

Get the impression that there are quite a few Octavia estate owners on the forum. Any of you have the 4x4 Scout version and if so, any warnings about them? They seem to be the only vehicle on the market that fits my particular niche (decent load length and ground clearance, not too many...

    Lathe for hobby use

The backlash may be a very simple tightening up of a collar behind the handle or it COULD be a worn nut, which is more of a problem but not insurmountable once you have it running. Shame about the change wheels, they may be in the hen's teeth category as memory says they weren't the same as...

    Pitch Pine.

Lovely stuff to work, but be careful with it on the lathe, as it can be very brittle and can almost shatter like glass if you make the slightest mistake with tool contact. Takes a lovely finish, as has been said.

    Lathe for hobby use

Just went to have another look at the advertisement for the lathe and it says"removed"! Hope you were the lucky buyer- we'll want pics of it in action!

    Lathe for hobby use

Agree with all previous comments. It looks very much like the myford version of the Drommond flat bed which they were ordered to produce during WW2. I used to have the Drummond version and it was really tight and precise, even thoughit must have dated from the 1930s as it was originally treadle...

James May in a wood shop

Got at least three copies of that diagram, including an original service manual! BUT if you try to follow it, it makes no sense at all - try it! Even got son in law with a degree in electrical eng to interpret it and he failed completely......

Ideas for an inspection ramp wanted.

Like the idea for those extensions to normal ramps, but the ground clearance of our Golf and Polo is so poor that the front bumpers hit the ramp before the wheels get anywhere near the slope. Have had to use wooden extensions to run the car on to the ramps. (and they don't like Aberdeenshire...

Boxes Made of OSB for House Move

Does tea stll come in tea chests? Used get them from local grocer to use for all sorts of things. Only 1/4 inch ply, but pretty strong with steel strip reinforced corners. But that was 50 (well, probably 60) years ago.
