    Coronet elf questions

Can't be sure without a pic, but the "chuck" sounds like the old Coronet collet chuck. Should have three sets of jaws covering about 3/8" to 1". Not true collets, and not that accurate, but useful for holding items with a spigot in the relevant range. Oddly enough, was using mine (rethreaded to...

Has anyone ever made a violin, viola, cello etc?

FWIW, an old colleague who was an engineer also played cello and when he retired, actually made one from scratch. Never heard it played, as he died shortly after it was finished, but folk said it sounded OK . Possibly the bigger instruments are actually more forgiving?

Kity planer thicknesser and table saw

.......but the Kity Planer/thicknesser was in a different league from the Coronet!! Even as a Coronet enthusiast, you had to be a masochist to use that thicknesser! I must have spent hours pushing the whole machine round trying to get some awkward oak thicknessed

Beech block worktop 40mm cutting - how many teeth?

Son in law hs just used my Lidl tracksaw for laminate top and worked fine. But, slight hijack of thread, does anyone know of a cheaper source of additional track for these?

Small mobile base single foot lever design clip design

Thinking about making this sort of thing, would it be a good/bad idea to have only three wheels? So two non-swivel and a single swivel castor? Can see some advantages, but possibly missing obvious snags.

    Floor planing

Ditto from this one of 1944 vintage. Except it was my hernia............

Small mobile base single foot lever design clip design

Thanks to both you guys for those ideas. Been mulling over something similar for my Ryobi router table, which weighs a ton and regularly needs moving. Mine won't be as neat, for sure, but well worth some cutting and welding.

    Elu OF97 guide bushes

I acquired one of these routers for a very silly price a while back, and it works superbly, with the best dust extraction I've yet found on a router. BUT, it doesn't accept the simple guide bushes that were designed for the old MOF 96 and seem to be the most widespread standard. The ones for...

    1/4" bandsaw blade troubles

Am I just lucky, or has bandsaw design gone backwards? Have a decades old 352, pop any blade between 1/4in and 5/8in on, turn by hand a few times just to be sure it's tracking right, tension fully, nip up the guides and start cutting. Seems incredibly easy, or am l missing something?

Dust Extraction for Old Planer Thicknessers (Dewalt 1150)

My old Lurem Universal had no provision for chip extraction, so made a copy of the general style of hoods, which can be clamped to the fence when thicknessing or slides into the thicknesser outfeed and is held there by pressure from thicknesser base when surfacing. Needs a bit of careful...

    How times change

Ah, memory lane! Subscribed to Hobbies Weekly in the early 50s and lusted after an A1, but way beyond my pocket money! Had to make do with occasional use of the one in the primary school workshop. You don' t see those today, especially not with an open fire to warm the gluepot. But we were out...

    one thread two questions

It's the "file" thingy that Stanleymonkey suggests. There's one knocking round a drawer in my workshop somewhere - given away as a cover freebie on one of the mags in the ? 80s?. Oh, yes, forgot to say - also totally useless!

    Startrite 352 bandsaw blade guides.

Thanks, Bob. Where did you get the TCT tips, as a matter of interest?

    Wood Milne Design

Fitting winter tyres to the Golf today(!) so dug out the footpump; here are some images. Of course, it's not nice and clean like the OP's. But it is a working tool. It made me think - when you are in your 70s, you suddenly realise that things you've used for most of your life and regard...

    Startrite 352 bandsaw blade guides.

Not quite on topic, but relevant. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy replacement ?tungsten carbide? pads that could be brazed on in place of very battered rear guides on a 352?

    Mortices and Morticer question

Dont know if they work better or worse but some Wm Ridgway chisels were only full size for a length not much greater than the width, then reduced by about 1mm for the rest of the length. Which doesn't help tho OP, but may continue the argument!

    Inca bandsaw switch problem.

Ask very nicely and maybe Myfordman of this parish will appear in a puff of burning-paxolin-scented smoke with an authoritatve answer!

Buying Waney/Live edge slabs in the south.

It's nigh on a decade since I left the area, but there used to be some suppliers in and around Bedford. Bedford saw services, Silsoe sawmill, and two whose names I can't remember, one just south of Goldigton Rd in Bedford and one in Aspley Guise out west of Bedford. Others still in the area may...

    Inca bandsaw switch problem.

Whatever you do, don't chuck it out! Those little Incas were lovely machines. Even if you can't find a way to replace the switch, the motor will almost certainly be some sort of flange mounted one, almost certainly a metric size of flange and therefore likely to be available somewhere...
