    Strongest wood protection?

Very naughty, I know, but up here in the wilds of Aberdeenshire, the usual mix is dirty diesel/heating oil mixed with used engine oil............

    Arboga drill refurb

Looks like a super machine. Good luck with the refurb. I just MIGHT be able to help with brushes, as bought a whole cabinet of them from closing down of domestic appliance repairer. Wd need to know dimensions and it's a long shot, but happy to try to help.

advice for best table saw £500-£700 for small garage worksho

Not sure it's the size of the actual table saw that is limiting in a garage or similar. For me the big problem is the area needed for the workpiece to move over the saw, which can be several times that of the machine's footprint.

    Seleg.Sonnethal & Co (London) - chuck fitting

Be very surprised if it DIDN'T unscrew, but having said that, it may be a pig to remove. Try soaking with Plusgas (or nick some diesel out of you car if it's an oil burner). Then find a way to hold the shaft still and try a strap wrench to shift it. Whatever you do, don't rely on the back gear...

    Circular Saw Design

Had been pondering the exact same question in relation to the 18v deWalt battery saws. Earlier models have blade on right of motor, later, otherwise apparently identical, have blade on left. Tried newer type and it just felt WRONG. But did help me appreciate left handed son in laws problems with...

Dunno if it's just me, but can't quite visualise what you are proposing. Give us a sketch or something might encourage comments?

    Ultra 7 Universal woodworking Machine

Looking at the pics on the 'bay, didn't look to be anythig obviuos missing, and the switchgear looked pretty recent.

    Ultra 7 Universal woodworking Machine

If you have the space, surely that has to be a bargain? The only real bad I can see is the "thicknesser" which is just a thickness plate over the surface planer. Several years chasing my old Coronet around the workshop using that sort of arrangement is not an experience to treasure. Hence...

What motor is the original for a coronet no:3 need Help!

Very likely to be a Gryphon, BW, but note that the CL3 has a flange mounting, not the foot mounted version of the Major. But equally bullet proof.

    What Generator ?

The only saving grace of the Honda-ish engines is that they are sufficiently accurate copies of the real thing that genuine Honda parts can be used when the copies break. But still not a good idea!

    What Generator ?

Sander etc should run fine off a "suitcase" type of generator and they are relatively quiet, so should not upset your fellow allotmenteers. Problem with anything bigger could be just adding genny noise to inherent noise of tools. Expensive, but what about battery kit? If you go down the genny...

    Sandwiching Metal Sheets

......... and if anyone has a copy of the standard text on moku gane for less than 500 dollars, my daughter would probably buy it off you :D :D :D . She's done a couple of courses on it in the US, but still hasn't managed to meet the guy near Perth who is the UK guru.

"Woods in British Furniture Making" - A Review

Credit card isn't just whimpering - it's an anguished scream! But it looks as if the volume is a lot cheaper from the RBG shop at Kew, and they have to be more deserving of support than Amazon.

    Happy new year

Happy New Year from the wild North. Think my daughter summed up the last year pretty well when she said she was joining the Festivities specificall to dance on the grave of 2016. Please let 2017 make some amends.

    How do you say "fagus"?

I should , but sadly am not, fully up to speed on all this, as we had two, or it may even have been three, lectures in the general area of taxonomy and molecular genetics given to the Friends of the Cruickshank Botanic Garden last year. "Lumpers versus splitters" "phylogenetic trees" "epigenetc...

    Pugh's Auction - Saturday 7th Jan Ledbury

HUH! Just 475 each way from here! 160 only just gets me south of Edinburgh, a fairly frequent trip. But Ledbury is a great, and can be inexpensive, day out.

Unheated Barn vs Kiln Dried Timber

As an alternative (and probably more accuate!) approach, you could weigh the test piece before it goes out to the barn and at intervals thereafter. That, together with accurate measurement, should tell you the worst!

    How do you say "fagus"?

... and anyway, now taxonomists have access to DNA technology, it's probably only a matter of time before F. sylvatica gets moved to some wildly different genus like Taraxacum or something equally bizarre. I'm sure they just do it to befuddle us elderly agrobotanists.
