Where can I find 3.5mm and 4.5mm wood drill bits?

Bought a set in 0.5mm increments 2mm to 12mm from Axminster last year. Can't remember the price, but it seemed very reasonable, as did the quality.

    ELU Router Questions

Agree with the general praise for Elu kit; it was the Festool (not that I have any Festool, just four Elus!) of its day. But not true that they never cracked the gold standard for dust collection. When I got an OF97, just couldn't believe where all the dust went - practically nothing escapes...

    Lathe buying advice

Have owned two of those you mention, Tyme Avon and (currently) Mystro. The Avon is, IMHO, much underrated provided it's mounted on a solid bench as it's not a heavyweight. Which, of course, might be an advantage in your situation. It's also a non-standard nose thread, which may be limiting...

    Lidl moisture meter

Anyone bought one of these? Got one yesterday and the readings it gives are plausible, but was wondering if anyone has tested them against a "proper" one?

    Bad luck comes in.....fours

After a lousy 2016, I was going to say 2017 couldn't be worse, but decided to refrain too. Dead right - ended up in the local hospital at exactly the same time as my daughter, both being checked for cancer. Thank heavens she came out clear, but my prostate failed the test. And there is still...

Bite the bullet, save some cash and get a secondhand Startrite 352. Your descendants will thank you for it in a few decades!

    Multico M1 morticer bushing

Think the ones on my Multico started life as part of the seat hinging mechanism of a two-door Volvo 120 from the 1960s! So basically, any steel, or brass would do.

    Bandsaw bearing help

Agreed. The only thing I have against the 352 is that I suspect it's looking at me and thinking "I'll still be working fine long after you have shuffled off, mate!".

    Bandsaw bearing help

Thanks, Woodpig - makes more sense than the manufacturers. Of course if, like me, you run an old 352, it's of theoretical interest only :D

    Eucalyptus ..

+1 for are you sure it's dry. Had one of those in the garden of our last house and lopped branches burned fine after a few months sheltered storage. Maybe try stacking a few logs near the stove for a while and see how they go?

    Bandsaw bearing help

I've asked before and never got a convincing answer- WHY do so many bandsaw manufacturers mount the back bearing in such a stupid way? Makes no engineering sense at all.

    Timber Cladding for Extension

.... whereas Siberian larch is VERY dense. 3m lengths of 25 by 150mm are not a fingertip lift!

    Timber Cladding for Extension

Daughter and her husband have just had their large extension clad in Siberian larch. They are going to leave it to silver, so will be interesting to watch. The boards are as they came off the resaw, just square edged and unplaned.

    WW1 Mobile Workshop

Lovely stuff. Was the whole thing powered by a generator, or were they all human powered? It looks from the pic as if the lathe at least could have been fitted with a treadle.

    What have I bought?

Picador used to make one years ago. Fitted one to an old Coronet and it worked fine. Don't know if Picador still exist, but it might give you a starting point to find one secondhand.

Mounting hardware, screw holes in join

Not a serious problem unless the screws are going to be subject to force pulling them out, but they won't grip that well into the end grain of dowel.

    Power Carving/ Sanding discs

Only got experience of Arbortech. All I can say is it scares the shh-you-know-what out of me! Feels a bit like a chainsaw but with fingers much too close to the sharp bits......

    Chuck identification

Certainly not something I've ever seen, but it's a bit like a development of the original Hattersley and Davidson 6 in 1 chuck, made to grip in contracting rather than expanding mode. Presumably the screws on the back have to be just tight enough for the jaws to move, but not so slack as to...

    wadkin JTA restoration

Wasn't phosphoric acid the active ingredient in the original Jenolite? No idea what is in there now, but can bet it's more dilute than the original! THINK the acid is still available for cleaning milking lines.
