HSBC - Awesome start to the New Year (not)

Slightly lighter note - there was only one HSBC branch up here in Aberdeen. Then one day, got a letter from them saying that for my convenience, they were opening a new branch in High Street..................... INVERNESS. I guess geography isn't their subject. Still, makes a change from...

    Twisted Kity Planer fence

Stick one end in vice and GENTLY twist the other end against the fault?

    Door Bells

Recommend a Kelpie-Collie cross - even if you had Usain Bolt as an intruder, the Kelpie could out-accelerate him and would still be running when he had collapsed.

    Rampin pinpush various sizes

Any chance of measuring the bores of them? Mine is a bit too big for small panel pins, so could do with a finer one. (Looking again, I suspect the one on the left is exact twin of mine! Right down to the pattern of cracking in the varnish)

    Laburnum and Mulberry

I've got quite a lot of laburnum in those sorts of sizes, air dried, but carriage from Aberdeen would probably be prohibitive

Cutting gears in metal sheet (or buying plastic ones)

Thinking along the same lines, there is a place in Aberdeen called Make, which is community focused and has all sorts of printers and similar kit available for use. There are certainly other branches in Mainland Europe, so may be also elsewhere in UK.

Mine's only 20 miles from the Silver City, but you'll have to wait for me to hand in my chips :D

    Have I seen the future???

Great sentiments, Heimlaga, well expressed. Sadly, unless the predominant economic model can be changed, and with it, human behajviour, it's likely the human race will repeat the story of Easter island, but globally. Oh, yes, and congratulations on your beach cleaning activities.

    Kitchen cabinet standards?

Quite by chance started using Hettich fittings for our kitchen and they seem excellent. Not cheap, but good quality.

    What's it called?

Can't recall the maker, but according to jewellry-making daughter, the best rolling mills by far are made in the UK. She had to import her's to the US at considerable cost.

Sometimes you wish you'd not passed a comment to a neighour

From bitter experience, don't try making a spinning wheel unless it's just for the "fun" of it. Too many new ones get bought, then the recipient gets bored and they get sold on for a fraction of the cost of making. Sadly, in our case, it was SWMBO's arthritis that intervened, but the same...

How good is the saw on a Coronet Major

Have never owned a Major, but had several other sorts of Coronet. Good points are that they are well made, accurate and excessively versatile. Bad points are few, but for me, the worst thing about the saw is the tilting table rather than spindle. Difficult to use for any angled cuts except on...

Judi Dench: My Passion for Trees on the Beeb

Watched it, but was rather disappointed. Some good bits, but an awful lot of "luvvy padding". That said, as a retired scientist, I'm probably not the intended audience

    Kity riving knife

Well, if you are 100% sure, RFZ, then if Ram64 wants to pm me, we can sort something out. But probably best to leave any action till after the festivities to let the Posties get sorted out.

    1902 Stanley 41/2.

Always get much the same feeling with my Spiers Coffin Smoother. It's worked hard all its life somewhere up here in North East Scotland, has all the scars, but it keeps on working.
