    deWalt help

Just in case it jogs anyone's mind that they've seen one somewhere, here are some pics of the switch. Suspect the little box part is the off-the-shelf bit - the connecting lever is obviously special to the angle drill. Thanks for your patience, folks!

    Sorby Pro-edge

Thanks, CHJ. Rather confirms what I guessed. So would need to keep the old horizontal wheel machine at least. Further thought needed.

    Sorby Pro-edge

Keep reading enthusiastic praise for this from turners, and wondering whether to ditch Tormeks etc. in favour of one. BUT, wondering if they are any good for planer blades? Haven't seen any mention of dedicated or custom built jig for this.

    Workshop Layout

+1 for what orraloon says (and I am beginning to understand Doric!). It's also a good idea if you can to line up door(s) and a window, then you can feed really long stuff across m/c in between. My last shed also had a roller mech that clipped on to the opened windowsill level with the table of...

Yes, definitely not alder with those buds, but 99% for some form of willow.

Myford ML 8 owners - could be useful to you

Can't offhand remember the exact spec of the recent Myfords (age does that to you!) but the Mystro, ML7 and the Super 7 all share the same nose thread. At least mine all have! But the ML8 is smaller.

The 6 Personalities of Workbench Builders

SWMBO used to work among engineers and insists there was no such person as a CIVIL engineer.

    deWalt help

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Have hunted through RS with the proverbial toothcomb but had not tried Maplin, so that's a possible. I've sent emails into the deWalt black hole, but it's behaved normally and nothing came out. Others such as Miles, ToolFix etc seem to have similar...

    wooden logs

Can't tell from the first pic, but do the buds have a distinct blueish tinge? If they do, and given the site where it was growing, my money would be on Alder.

    deWalt help

(Not sure if this is the right forum, but it is a woodworking tool). I've now had two 18V deWalt Angle drills (marvellous for work inside cabinets) pack up due to faults with the reversing switch. Have managed to get one back to life with a lot of switch cleaner and patience, but the switch on...

Woodcraft weekend coming up in Botanic Gardens

Sounds good and a lovely part of the world. Wonder if we could try something similar in the University Botanic Garden up here.....

Oooops. Should read more carefully.

Hacksaws: How to choose 'em, how to use 'em, + other "stuff"

Just one word of warning about nibblers, having spent what seemed like a lot of money for a mains version of the Bosch shown by TFrench (but in the days when I did some Volvo restoration, it earned its keep in a very short time). Those little crescents of metal that come out with each nibble...

    wooden garden tool handles

Slightly off topic, but years ago when we moved to Lancaster, the handle on my pitchfork broke. Didn't have a lathe then so went in to Burgess the agricultural suppliers and without thinking, asked for a "pikel steel", which was what they were called in my home dialect . Got some very blank looks!

Do folk on here share kit?

Without getting into the minutiae of insurance cover against accidents/injury when using shared kit, it probably comes down to mutual trust. My sons-in-law use my kit and vice versa, but even there, occasionally stuff comes back (to me, I hasten to add) in a less good state than I would like...

tall kitchen units or 2 base units ontop

No reason not to do this if you are happy with it looking a little bit "unusual". But if one side of the paired units is exposed, it might be an idea to clad it with a single tall panel; would look better and give some mechanical support to the units. How were you thinking of joining them...
