In which year did you start woodworking

First decent wooden object was a cutlery box, made in junior school probably in about 1953. Was still being used by my Mother until she died in 1990. But it was rather marred by a fellow pupil who "borrowed" it during construction and decided to round off the edges of the tenons, which didn't...

    Sold Dust/chip extractor

AZ dust/chip extractor, with Axminster fine needlecloth filter. Been replaced by a fixed system, and now taking up too much space. Goes in the back of Golf, or could probably deliver within North of Scotland for the cost of the diesel, and weather permitting! Would like to get £60 for it.

Just explaining to my friend how to get into the box.

    Insulated feral cat house

Would prefer to adopt our local pine martens! Actually, given the quantity of peanuts, put out for our red squirrels, eaten by the martens, we probably have!

Does this Thread Size sound familiar?

If it's Swedish, would expect it to be metric, not imperial, but could be wrong. Will go and consult Mr Zeuss. Update: it appears to be 1 3/8"UNF. See Unified Thread Series 16 TPI ANSI/ASME B1.1

    Insulated feral cat house

The hog has been seen on the trailcam exploring round its new home. But apparently, they should not be given wet cat food (not sure why, but daughter is well up in these things), so it will have to be another deserving cause who gets Puss' rejects.

Large auction of timber and tools.

Even if we shared the driving, it's still a bit too far. And having reached the stage in life where I know for definite I have stuff around my workshop that there isn't time left to use, should be selling, not buying!

    Insulated feral cat house

Hope so; seems like (s)he may be useful clearing up the varieties of cat food that our fussy 21 year old (cat!) refuses to eat.

    Insulated feral cat house

Well, the stab victim has been released from hospital, and is (or was a couple of hours ago) snuggled up in leaves in the ho(g)tel. (you need to look carefully!) That's not the final placing of the box; it's got a specially cleared space by the garden wall.

    Inherited workbench restoration

Going off topic completely, intrigued by Orraloon's forum name. Did you grow up spikkin the Doric, or like me, are you still trying to learn it. After 14 years in Formartine, can cope with one Doric speaker, but when two are speaking, it's double Dutch.

    Inherited workbench restoration

I'm with Orraloon and IWW. It's a workbench, not an artwork! Do only what is needed to make it into the functional item it was for grandfather. If any of my descendents over-prettify my bench when I'm gone, I'll be back to haunt them! It was made 50+ years ago mainly from timber that was...

    Hello from Edinburgh

Wife spent most of her career running postgraduate stuff in fluid engineering. She reckons she never met a CIVIL engineer.

    Insulated feral cat house

Not entirely sure where it will go! Think daughter was proposing to put it up against a block wall, then cover it with leaves, bits of branch or anything else that will compost to give a bit of warmth. Have suggested she puts a polythene sheet draped over the hog house, as the blockboard won't...

    Insulated feral cat house

Daughter was moving compost heap with a fork, and managed to stab a hedgehog which was hibernating there. Fortunately, there's an animal rescue place not far away that deals with injured animals, so husband took it there and it is now convalescing. But to expunge her guilt, daughter asked me...

Sold Drummond B Type lathe, Sussex

Of course you can. You'll forever regret it if you don't. Would never have sold mine if there hadn't been the option of a well-priced Super 7 to replace it.

Startrite 352 fence and t/s fence upgrades

Thanks for the compliment, Jacob. The fence did originally have a Kipp handle, but it had an "accident"..........

Startrite 352 fence and t/s fence upgrades

Coming a bit late to the party, my 352 didn't have a fence when I bought it, so a bit of milling using the Super 7 on a lump of iron produced the connection to the rectangular bar shown below. Fence is a section of U-shape aluminium, with the opportunity to adjust it to allow for blade drift...

    Brummer stopping

Depends whether it is the "normal" brummer or the waterproof one. You can sometimes revive the latter with acetone, but otherwise go with Sgian Dubh.
