Can I make all usual structures with just wood from my small woodland?

At our last house, I was growing an apricot up the side wall of the garage, but decided to enlarge the garage, so moved the apricot out into the garden. Supported it with a willow stake. The apricot died, but the willow flourished. (and as an aside, we had the best crop of apricots we've ever...

How can I put a dozen or so old tyres to use?

Interesting. So how ARE these things done? Does it only work with crossplies?

How can I put a dozen or so old tyres to use?

Doesn't help the OP, but I have a couple of old tyres still on rims, and people seem to cut round one sidewall and turn the main part inside out to use them like decorative urns as planters. Keep meaning to try, but like others, not sure about cutting. Fine tooth blade in a jigsaw?

Fobco 1/2” Cap Bench drill dimensions?

Mine is 34" high, 20" front to back and about 13" wide.. B****y heavy is the best measure of weight and awkward shape as well. Thirty years ago I had to get daughter's then boyfriend to help me lift it on to bench. Think the removal guys probably put it in place when we moved to Scotland17...

    What's this, chaps?

As a kid 70 odd years ago, my family used to "salt down" a side of bacon from time to time and pretty sure saltpeter was used in the mixture for that. A cellar would be a likely place for that to be done?

    Hello from the Highlands.

Your post says hello from the Highlands - that's a pretty big area! Any closer location? For the record, I'm only 20 miles north of Aberdeen but couriers insist we are Higlands and Islands too!

    Which saw... BandSaw?

Not like the deWalt I had years ago, which had been an Elu before the takeover. That had the "normal" column on the left. Good saw, but it was replaced by the inevitable Startrite 352 in my workshop.

Difference Between Startrite 351S and 352S Bandsaw

Have never needed to change speed on my 352. But only use it for wood.

    hi

Wonderful to live on the "Nairn Riviera"! According to an old naval friend, Lossiemouth was chosen as a site for an air base as it is fog free more often than other sites in the area. I'm nearer Aberdeen, and it's pretty dreich here today. Flaming June? Huh!

Hello from Scotland [and perhaps soon to be Australia !]

If you don't mind moving even further north, there are quite a few houses on the market and not selling instantly, up here north of Aberdeen. Several in our, not too isolated, village.

    Lurem crossroads

For what it's worth, my highly modified C200 (the daddy of the C210) is fitted with two 2.2kW motors, and provided it's used regularly so the belts don't get "set" it starts fine on a 13A circuit. As regards belts for the saw, it uses standard toothed flat belt inside out. But remember I'm a...

    hearing

I finally had to give in and get aids when I thought my daughter said something about seeing the OSPREY in the nearby parkland. I replied saying I'd seen it flying over too. Her look when she explained she had said OTTER made the decision for me. Started with basic NHS aids, but had to go...

A little truth for a change.

Excellent summary. And given that you put your location as Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe, you'd better watch your bacl!

Interesting place, Michigan. Daughter and her husband retired to Old Mission Peninsula, north of Traverse city, where she keeps busy making jewellry.

    Battery compatibility

Yes, it's primarily battery chainsaws that interest me; my oldish Hyundai is still OK if it's charged regularly, but it's only a 12", and a 14" would be useful. The original versus non-OEM quality difference makes sense, but what it would be useful to know is whether there is any...

Think you've hit this particular nail squarely on the head, Orraloon! But thanks for all the comments, folks.

    Battery compatibility

Not strictly a general woodworking topic, but as heavyweight cordless equipment gets more common, there once more seem to be almost more different battery types than there are makers! I've been looking at cordless chainsaws, and it looks as if each of the makers has their own "standard". Has...

    Coronet minor lathe

Looks like you also have the slot morticing attachment at the right hand end of the bed. Can't see a tailstock mounting, so I think technically that's a Minorette, not a Minor lathe. Had one years ago, as did a colleague, who did most of the wood work for reinstating a 17th century stone...

    Myford ML7 regrind

And if it gets tight an ends of travel, some judicious use of a scraper will cure that, even if the result isn't optically flat.
