    Suggestions for future heating system

Our bungalow is just over 200 sqm with 400mm insulation all round. It has electric heaters which 99.9% of the time don't get used. We have a 5KW Morso Squirrel and two desk fans to move the warmth as required and we burn about 40x25kg bags of coal a year, £8 a bag for smokeless. Water is an...

Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

O/T for the OP, but I was caught out with an Ebay purchase where I bought a shrub and some small plug plants. The shrub arrived, the little plugs never did. Since the seller had proof of delivery and they had described it as one consignment they had proof my order was delivered. Ebay just said...

    Telescopes

I looked into buying a small bright of binos last year and learnt then about my shrinking pupil diameter as I got older. Why are there star gazing binos? Is there an advantage? Thank you to rwillett for the offer of a sun viewing telescope but I never went down that route because I don't...

    Telescopes

I discovered recently the amazing images you can see of the sun, but hadn't realised that those telescopes are something entirely different and only for doing that one thing.

Electrical switch for DAYLIGHT not night

I have a pair of approx 5" fans that come with solar panels that were about £10 each off flaebay in my greenhouse. The panels face kind of west wedged between the skin and the frame so come on most afternoons when the sun is on them. Both facing the same direction a reasonable circulation is...

    BBC Scaremongering again

I think the BBC have a public duty to look in great detail at Boris's vice

    BBC Scaremongering again

I think it shows Sky have absolutely no idea what to do. McDonalds don't sell cars to promote drive thru? National Trust selling shoes, and only allowing those with their shoes in? They profit from content not hardware, their hardware just facilitates what they sell. If their TV had software to...

    BBC Scaremongering again

An article in the UKMSM by a long standing reporter was talking about Aus and it's lock down possibly being helped by a "more complicit" media. I thought it surprising that someone who has reported with bias in a place of bias acknowledged that the MSM is/was and forever shall be so. He also...

Direct Air vs Air from Room - for Wood stove. What's best for high humidity house?

Our house has about 400mm of insulation all around, a 5KW Morso Squirrel and window trickle vents with a CO monitor. Yesterday with a bit of sunshine we had 21degC in the main room. Most visitors struggle when they come round complaining it's too warm, but the fire hardly gets lit until it's...

    Nespresso repair

I seem to remember the basic ones can be had for £40 new when on offer? Also, ours, which we've stopped using, never did really pierce the plastic shelled capsules very well, too much give compared to the ally ones which always worked.

Which cordless system are you going with..if any?

A friend of mine has a huge amount of Einhell cordlees tools, mainly because he used to live near the factory shop I think near Munich, 50% off kind of thing. That includes a push bike which uses the same batteries. Not top quality but works well for the price.

Which cordless system are you going with..if any?

I have and am happy with dewalt, moving from ryobi. I almost started with Makita because they do a fan which would have been very useful camping. Now, as pointed out above, I know they do a coffee machine I am again tempted. Asking permission from the boss, the answer comes back you can have one...

    mainland

The only lot who don't charge extra to the Isle of Lewis is the Post Office/Parcel Force. Everything else gets dumped in Inverness and given to the two local couriers, however speedy a service you've paid for. It's random wether the courier or the Postie brings it too unless it's really big...

    Sickle

The snath is supposed to be adjusted to suit your height (its length, plus each handle height), then you learn to swing to keep the blade flat. You can't realistically change your swing to alter the angle the blade strokes what is infront of it? You can of course do that with a few swings at...

    Sickle

I bought three blades when I bought a new scythe from the man in my previous link about six years ago. The only one I've used is between these two for rough growth but not woody stuff and works well. The longest blade is supposed to be for grass, and wasn't the longest available at the time by...

Stuff for craft fair? Ideas wanted!

The OP Trychet thing suggests to me you make a bottle opener. The control panel details could be used on that, or copy details from aircraft control panels? My Mrs has done several fairs of different types and usually the things she has made to try and sell there and then open up questions of...

Stuff for craft fair? Ideas wanted!

End grain or not is one argument, but do you have to employ really small people to do chopping inside the dishwasher?

    Grain, shrinkage and stability

I have some wheat, but i never measured any of it when it was delivered to know if it's smaller now. I've never seen it move though. Hope that helps :)
