    Home battery storage systems...

It's windy enough here (58N 6W approx) to make a turbine plus most likely a lead acid battery bank big enough to run the house a possibility. A neighbour was a registered installer, suggesting £23000 for a 3.5KW machine connected to the grid. The limit for that was downsized here from 5KW...

    One-*** efficacy questions

Early last year it was openly reported that the UK was essentially going looking for cases to get as good a handle of how much Covid there was here. Germany had a more reserved manner of reporting and so were showing fewer cases, and so were seen in the MSM as doing a "better" job of being in...

Stud opening size for fire doors and lining

So domestic fire doors from new should always have a threshold under to allow for any future floor covering that may go under the door opening? Didn't know that.

    Home battery storage systems...

A neighbour has a couple of 100W panels in the roof of his greenhouse, and is thinking about one of the small turbines off Amazon for a few hundred quid, connected at first to a 500Wh lithium "powerbank" battery, but now to one maybe twice as big. The first one had limited charging input...

    Filtering heating oil/Paraffin.

Not as cheap as a coffee filter, but they do at least three sizes the smallest showing up on Amazon is £20? Same medium, just bigger flow rates. Some reviews say they are dubious, others say it's fab, and to keep water in the filter you do have to keep it level while in use.

    One-*** efficacy questions

One thing that did strike me about an "expert" on YT (quotes because one man's expert is anothers useful *****) Is how the NHS was always close to collapse. In the first instance that's why we had a couple of weeks lockdown. Then the temporary hospitals were put up, but the NHS was still almost...

    One-*** efficacy questions

Personally I find this thread interesting. As long as people do, and it is polite, I'm not sure why closing it is a good idea? Ivor Cummins has some good presentations, one of his latest is just highlighting a MSM news item Or this one which is long but for instance compares North and South...

Things to while away the day watching on Youtube

    I like The Essential Craftsman, who seems to cover many things in building woodwork, some concrete and blacksmithing. His presentation style sits well with me :) Two different examples;

    car parking area spec

Wouldn't it be a good idea to dig until the topsoil stops, rather than assuming a certain depth before digging? Layer thickness depends on the compacter, a hire firm may have guidelines for what you hire? And think about something creative to do with the topsoil nearby while you have the digger...

    Ply cupboard making tools question

Thank you again for the replies. I didn't realise I needed a probably five year apprenticeship before being allowed into a room with power tools for the first time, and even then, probably a Henry hoover. However, a hand saw seems a step too far, i may just start with the 8'x4' sheet and some...

    Ply cupboard making tools question

Thanks for all replies so far. You tube is a good idea except the only internet here has a monthly download cap whoever you get it from, so I'm not sure I'll get to watch much as without it we are already bumping on the limit most of the time. There's only one internet plan above what we now...

Morocco first, or maybe a little further south than that, then Eastern Europe, or maybe a bit further east than that. Hopefully!

    Ply cupboard making tools question

Hiya Thank you for the reply and advice :) This campervan will be taken on rough roads, so sliding doors would need to be fixed in place for zero bounce while driving. Sand and grit will eat the exposed runners. And I'd still have to cut a nice square hole for the door, even if I line the cut...

    Ply cupboard making tools question

1st post. Mentioning plywood too so probably off to a bad start?? Anyhow, I'm soon to fit out our campervan. At the moment it's an empty box, so dinette, bunk beds, kitchen cupboard etc. Marine, or maybe Vohringer to save weight, ply to minimise temperature and moisture distortion issues my...
