Track saw. Do I need one?

A second hand Festool TS55 won’t lose a great deal in value over a few years so if you want to try one and find it sat on a shelf gathering dust you will be able to move it on. May cost you 10% over a few years

    Extraction adaptor needed

I have used large heat shrink for some quick adaptors, just slide a section of HS between the hose and the tool, a bit of heat and you are there :)

Does oiling both faces really make a difference?

has anyone actually done any control studies of this? It seems such a basic of finishing wood I am surprised there isn’t a concrete answer to this. does osmo actually seal the wood preventing moisture being absorbed (Or excreted) over a long period? Would a piece of wood oiled on all sides...

    Are cheap cyclones any good?

I have been tempted by the cheap cyclones on eBay for <£15 to use inline with my trusty Henry. the question is are they any good? also what would you recommend for a good value bin to mount the cyclone on? thanks

How to strengthen a 19mm oak panel

I would think 1mm is far to thin, my 1m steel rule is 1.5mm thick and 40mm wide and is quite flexible

Board width in relation to timber movement

R re the guitar back, why is the back curved to allow for movement and the front flat? I’d have thought that a similar pairing of materials & construction would keep everything balanced? (Disclaimer I know nothing about guitars)

Which heat gun for stripping paint?

Looking for a suitable heat gun for stripping paint from a guitar body. I think I need something around 2000W but that doesn’t particularly narrow down the price. For £21.99 I can get a 2000w Titan from screwfix but the reviews seem to be largely 5* or 1* I’d rather buy something they will...

    B&D urban myth?

I would be inclined to think tools are designed to last a minimum period rather than fail after a certain point. Perhaps there has to be a certain level of responsibility put on the buyer. Never before have we had so much choice, information and feedback on Items we buy. There is still the...

    Willow Whippet-Off belt sander

I currently have an old Willow Whippet-Off belt sander mounted on one of my benches and never use it so am looking to replace it with a disc sander. the sander is the same as the attached photo just wondering if anyone could advise what it may be worth? it comes with a 1/2hp hoover motor &...

    MFT accurate cuts

Three things I would check: try measuring with the tape as straight and flat as possible, twisting And flexing it over your rail may produce some inaccuracies. check your tape is accurately measuring using both faces of the hook/end, if the tape is worn, damaged or cheap this may be a source...

MFT insert / blanks to fill holes

Thanks for all those ideas there. I’m keen to keep the bench flat rather than having a sheet cover half and have the option to set up different processes from either end of the bench at the same time. Having never used an MFT before I’m not sure exactly how I will be working so want to go for...

MFT insert / blanks to fill holes

Thanks for the link, I was more thinking something that sits below the level of the bench top so you can slide work around the bench without knocking screws down the holes.

MFT insert / blanks to fill holes

I’m looking to build an 8x4 MFT bench but unsure if having it peppered with holes will be a bit of a pain when using the bench for work with screws. It will be one of two main work benches. I had a quick google for infill plugs to stop screws falling through the holes but couldn’t find...

    Lasers - advice please

I was initially amazed at the price of this, a bit more of a google and I can’t seem to find it for sale anywhere else, I think the link may not be that safe, perhaps needs removing? looking on indiegogo I’m not sure it is even in production yet (And the comments from backers are not positive)...
