This bit of timber was bent, split and rotted....

Another bit of leylandii I thought that a leylandii maple leaf would be a bit different. Our neighbour had some light pruning done on their cherry tree. Guess who got some bits? Out with my wax saucepan and little burner time and I will have some green turning too me-thinks.

This bit of timber was bent, split and rotted....

Very dry and leylandii turns well, has a lovely grain and takes a lovely finish. This is one that I had a hell of a job finding the photo , but I will keep on looking as I know I have more! I really like the wanie edge on this one. It's definately the best use that I have found for leylandii !

Is this the best bargain of the week?

Before you ditch it you may want to have a look at the book elu-mhb90-belt-sander It says on the languages page that English is on P13, but it doesn't take the diagrams in to account so go to P20. I have had a Bosch belt sander for quite a few years. It isn't used very much, but when I do use...

    'Working' holiday in France?

That is a generous offer Froggy and I wish that I could take you up on it! The nearest I have been to you was a visit to Orador sur Glan. What an atmospheric place! We had a trip up there when we lived near Carcassonne, Aude. As you say, a lovely part of France. One of my commissions when we...

    Record cl lathes

2s up for the solid square base. Mine is 2 X 6" top with 2 X 4" 'A' frame legs bolted to the concrete floor and cross braced across the rear legs with steel caterinary wire. It is solid and has been that way ever since. One of the beauties of the CL range is the head swing where you can turn...

Chimney sweep logs - do they work?

The basics of it is that if your insurance company can find a way out of paying then they will, whatever they have said. Our chimney has just been swept by an approved pro and we have a certificate to prove that. Cost? just 0ver £60, or about £1.20/week or 17p/day. What price peace of mind?

    No hole through headstock

That is the thread protector Hlvd and it works every time as I said above ;)

    No hole through headstock

My Record CL1 has a 1MT hole and I have never in the 20 plus years I have had it had any problems getting a drive center out. It only needs the thread protector as has been mentioned rearlier. There's no need to start belting a rod down a hole. Just hold the shaft flats with a spanner and unwind...

That one missing woodturning tool !!!

I bit the bullet a few years back and got a OneWay CBN wheel and don't regret the cash to do it. Quick, cool cutting and it don't get smaller! I must be either very lucky or unimaginative, but I can't think of anything apart from more room ?

What is your most useful tool

Depends what I'm doing? No good with your favourite hammer if you need to sand something init :dunno: And a lathe won't measure a 10' bit of wood? My favourite it the right tool for the right job.

    Bandsaw Table Losing Parallel

I am with you JSW in that the only I take the tension of of my saw is to change the blade. And I have always used a 1/4" 6 skip for the 30 years I have had my Startrite 301S. I also use Tufsaw's M40 blade, at least I think it's that one? I also have a couple of Axy blades as backup.

Stuff for craft fair? Ideas wanted!

Coasters? These are some I made for commissions, but they look just as good without the ne=ames, or you can pyrograph them at the fair for the punters. I like doing the pyrography and the punter feels they have something special.
