    Sharpening Forstner bits/

I have 11 Forstener bits that I have had for a lot of years. Ranging fro ¼" to 2". I have sharpened them with my DMT diamond stones but they have now got to the stage where they could do with a bit more attention. Is there such a thing as a 'system' on the market to do the job, one that works?

    5minute epoxy

I always use Titebond 3. It's bullet proof and won't let go and will break the wood rather than the glue on but jointed pieces. Finish? Chestnut Hard wax oil. Very hard wearing and food safe when dry I assume that the photos are the finished bowl/dishes?

    P38J Lightnings

Rip off comes to mind. You can turn them out by the dozen or so an hour after some child has done the program.Plastic, and what the hell is a 30s car doing with a driver with a modern skid-lid and visor? Sorry, but something for someone with more money than they know what to do with. Your kit...

    What to do with apple?

crochet hooks Paper knives Or pens A little bit of inlaying can make even the most plane wood look very pretty. A Celtic knot or just a diagonal for instance.

    What to do with apple?

Nobody has asked so far just how big this wood is? It would be a great help to see what can be done with it.

First attempt at rope and barley twist

Thank you Fred. They get easier as you get the hang of doing them.

First attempt at rope and barley twist

I have made a few over the years and even entered one in the forum comp when we lived in France. The wood is Russian olive, a false olive with spikes on it that make black thorn look friendly! and this one was turned from the ugliest lump I had! Lovely to turn and always a surprise. I have...

First attempt at rope and barley twist

Fred the open twists look good as does the other one. I have done a number of the open twists and found them fiddly but not difficult. This sequence is worth a watch

    Startrite Bandsaw Owners

I'm a bit disappointed with my 301s. I had to replace the motor capacitor a few months back and I've only had it about 25 years  From what I know about my saw the only part of the blade that is availably for children's manicure sessions is the bit that is actually cutting the wood as...

    Balls

I set me a bit of a task with me balls some years back when I decided to make a lazy Susan entirely out of wood! Well not quite but the glue is wood glue ;) 18" diameter and 36 x ⅝" ball race! Done in ash. All done free hand, well. I like a challenge  And all done on my Record...

Anyone else see anything odd in this?

When it started I thought I saw something odd? By the time I got to the end I realised that I have never seen left hand thread drills and every cutting/drilling/screwing machine is bum backwards! That includes the router bit...

    Record cl lathes

My CL1 is about 24 years old and has solid bars snf is pretty stable. I also have a 3ø variable speed motor on it and at the mo i=I have a lump of wet cherry that's well out of balance and as you say Phill, a tweek on the speed takes it from trying to 'leave the room' to being quite acceptable...

Adapt and Survive. In woodwork as well.

Well EG, that's a fantastic story and good for you mate! There has got to be joiners over on your island and they will have all sorts of good bits for you to use and if you ask nicely they would probably size them for you too? I get a lot of my wood from my local joiner/cabinet maker and they...

    ***** question of the day....

2s up with you Vulcan. Layers are good and as you say most of all on your head. I hope to be stood on the top of a 500 foot slope tomorrow facing the wind and chucking RC gliders off of it and it will be layers there believe me! And not just for your hands 'LittleHotties' Little Hotties Warmers...

    Fire Extinguishers?

I have a fire blanket on my workshop door to the right going in and a halon extinguisher on the left. The halon is a single bash on the top and it empties, so in the case of a fire I would just grab the halon, bash the cap on the table of my band saw and chuck the thing into the workshop as I...

This bit of timber was bent, split and rotted....

Warp? What's that? This was a fresh cut bit of rhododendron and as well as getting a shower when I turned it I now have a pear shaped bowl that I have had to refuse to sell because SWMBO will not part with it. I love it too ! Well, it used to be round
