We visited your neck of the woods early last summer. Oradour-sur-Glane. What an incredible and moving place! You are about 6 hours north of us.. I have always had good service from Axy and been a customer for nearly 20 years now! When I started buying from them they had just the shop in the...

The 'dovetails aren't like a straight jobbie. They are cut with a skew chisel The ring is about 1/4" thick and the dovetail is about 1/8" deep, so apart from the actual diameter it isn't a big problem. I was just worried that the chuck would hold it while I was finishing the face side of it...

Something that I have wanted to do for years is to make a stand fo my silver Waltham pocket watch. The other day I was asked if I could make one for a member on another forum, so I decided to do mine to see what it's like? English oak that was given to me in the shape of a TV cabinet!! I've made...

Well Keith, turnin and burnin brings back memories of jet engines as opposed to wood!! From my time on aircraft in the R.A.F. As far as the domestic situation? We have an open fire here and I won't burn it. Far too much resin to burn and it ain't recommended for log burner inserts here either...

A good friend gave us a porcelain leaf for our 5th wed anniversary at the end of Feb. That's what you get for 20 years of obeying SWMBO [:-))] I really liked the leaf and thought that one would look nice in wood. I sorted out a lump of leylandii and started. This is what was in there...

Peter, your wish is my command-ish   Front and side as they say somewhere Well, side and back actually??? The idea of putting 2 rows on a shelf is OK, but don't forget that the distance between the inner faces of the front and rear uprights defines the angle that the...

Steal it!! That's stealing and all I did was to 'borrow' it from a sewing magazine several years back to make for SWMBO's cousin :P :P Be my guest Legless!! About the only thing to watch is to get the distance between the screw holes exactly the same for all levels and as I said, watch the...

    Cleaning an iron.

I forgot earlier, but vefore we moved over I used to do a lot of RC model glider flying and building. I have a small iron that's used to put the poly heat shrink covering on and it often gets the glue or poly stuck to it. Not too much of a problem, but when it gets too much I put it on as high...

    Cleaning an iron.

Whack it up as high a temp as it will go and wipe it across a rough cloth such as some old sacking if it's a non stick jobbie. Failing that then give it a soak with some acetone, but do it in the open air or you ain't going to need a beer in the evening!! Paracetamol? Try it for the headache...
