    Latest commission

after an Anglo/French forum member had had a look at my web site he asked if I could do a commission for him. It was to make a stand for his gold pocket watch. It's something that I have promised to do for myself for years now, so I said of course.. The first one had a cowl like ring that...

    Late Afternoon Visitor

Great shots Chas!! We have found 3 piles of feathers in various parts of the garden. All collared doves. We get a hell of a lot of them here. I was looking out into the garden one day and caught the feather pile maker at work! They are fantastic to watch, as long as you ain't got feathers!!

I took about an hour to do that one Stu. I mark them out to an octagon with a mortice gauge then form the octagon with my eleky planer. Then it's a simple job to just take the small corners off my my belt sander and finish it with my random orbit sander. The rings are done now, all 42. :shock...

    Pinch chuck.

We have a huge window in our lounge, 5 metres wide, and the curtain poles we have are not up to the job at 35mm diameter. We need 50mm jobbies, two at 2.5 metres. So I am making the poles from 2" thick beech. Not difficult. But We will need 40 curtain rings and the fittings. The rings are easily...

    Indexing wheel for turnery.

I'm sorry Phil, but I have no idea what you are trying to do? You talk of bungs and face plates, but if I had an idea of what you are trying to achieve??? I am not trying to be awkward in any way, but just trying to understand?

Looks interesting!! My effort today was to take a square stick and make it round 2" square 3.1 metres long to 2" and 2.6 metres long. I have another one to do as well, as soon as I get some more belts for my Bosch sander. The old ones kept on giving up and breaking at the join. I can't...

    A slightly different box?

Ta Andrew. I assume that you mean the box and not my twisted sense of 'humour'??  But I have to agree that it was worth the effort.

    A slightly different box?

People are always telling that it's my spalt that this happened or my spalt that that happened. It goes totally against the grain and it seems to be mushrooming and all of the fungus-hes out of it. I mean, I work my fingers to the toads tool to get these things done and my-sillyum is getting...

    A slightly different box?

Along with a 3000 sq metre garden taking some priority it took about a week. But if it were done straight through about 8 hours? I am now the proud owner of 4 new Forstner bits, up to 45mm!! Much easier than trying to poke the holes out with a gouge  , but as I said, it's not too...

    A slightly different box?

I have wanted to turn one of these for ages and finally got around to doing it. Started with some good and some spalted cherry and finished with a lot of bits. Unfortunately I forgot to get a photo of the wood before I started. Not really difficult to do, but accuracy is essential. This...

I've never used smaller than a 1/4" 6 skip. It does all of the jobs I need, but then I have not tried owt quite like yours. This is one of the last ones I made. It's a money box and before we moved over it was always a popular thing at craft fairs. I did all of the letters asked for But...

Now, if you had opened it you could have told us exactly what it was WM   It may well have been a new Axminster shop in Tokyo ?? :? I always hover the cursor over any clickables like that to see where they would send me. We are using Macs but we are still super careful when it...

    Toilet Seats

Nowt to do with hinges, but I always put one of those small sticky felt pads, that go under chair legs, etc. on the tank where the lid hits it. Then it doesn't knock the lid about or make a noise when opened in the middle of the night 8) Do you lot favour a Tory seat or a more Radical choice...
