    Record power cl2 …owners manual?

I don't know the Sorby stuff as I have the One Way kit and I also splashed out on a Wolverine CBN wheel that's made it even better. This is a good description of it https://www.toolpost.co.uk/sharpening/dry-sharpening-hs-grinder-systems/grinding-wheels/cbn-wheels

    Record power cl2 …owners manual?

On the CL1 there is a couple of flats on the drive shaft just behind the threads and a spanner that fits to hold it when loosening chucks, etc. Now you have your lathe it's time to spend  You can spend a lot, but not necessarly, but I would advise getting the best you can. There's a...

    Record power cl2 …owners manual?

It's the same as the CL1, mine. Never put an MT tool in the headstock without that thread protector or you will struggle. I never have and have had to use the shaft spanner and a bar in the tread protector to get drives out when they have been put under pressure. I love my CL1!

    Best Band Saw Blades

Reviving his thread. I too have used both Excaliber and Tuff Saws and much prefer the latter. But I have just put my last Tuff Saws 93" X ¼" 6 skip blade on my Startrite 301S and want to order 2 more. All I can find in the M42 ¼" blades are 2 Vari-Tooth and no 6 skip? I contacted Ian and he...

    Spindle gouge use

I mainly use a spindle gouge inside and out. I find that I get on better with it. When I'm not comfortable with that I go to my 3/8th bowl gouge with a finger nail grind. And when it gets more difficult I have a ½" bowl gouge with the trad grind, can't remember the name for that. Basically it...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

Pray tell just what is controversial about this post? Unless the controvisity just rest in your mind. I would suggest that if you don't want to upset a number of people then just go away from this thread.

    bowls from planks.....

Good on yer mate. It's now on my bookmarks. There are some very cleaver turners out there even if they do use car spring gouges

    DFS Habicht

I doubt that I could do anything like Kityhawk has done, but I too build model aircraft. Mine are radio controlled, that is always radio and sometimes controlled  This is my latest. It's a DFS Habicht, a ¼ scale model of a 1936 German gull wing and fully aerobatic glider. 3.4m span...

    Boeing B.17F

They are quite remarkable and if your customer doesn't like them it would be a HUGE surprise me-thinks! I think that if I had been doing them at least one of them would have become a flying model, frizby type!

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Fred, I have to agree and I thought it was oak, but when I had a good look at the end grain I wasn't so sure. It's an offcut from a local joiner/cabinet maker and the bloke in there thought it was ash too? But whatever, thank you for the compliment and I must admit that I was quite impressed...

    PVA or CA

I remember turning some rhododendron a good while back to make a bowl. It was so wet I got a shower! It was turned to quite thin and polished. I just wanted to see what happened. It literally went pear shaped and split as you can see. SWMBO LOVES it and it's been taken along to craft fairs...

    Grinding distances

I have the One Way system and Orraloon is correct. First to get as close as possible by eye with the wheel switched off. Then I flick the switch on/off so the wheel isn't at full speed and touch the gouge to it and see where the new bright patch is. I am not a fan of the shaft distance...

How did you learn to turn?

I do believe that one of the biggest problems with wood turning is that you but a lathe and think 'great stuff'! And then you start spending! Ohhh, that gouge looks good I like the look of that chuck! How on Earth did I ever manage without that tool/this rest/adjustable speed/on and on and...

    Glueing pallet wood

I get a lot of my wood from my local joiner/cabinet maker. They are only too pleased to see the offcuts being used instead of burned. It's surprising just what I have managed to get and it's free, so mastikes are not expensive. I have taken a couple of small bits made from their wood as a token...

How did you learn to turn?

That is quite an achievement Trobscottle! But please please don't use old files for turning tools. They will shatter and could do you a big time naughty. OK you could do all sorts of fancy heat treating but it isn't anything that I would touce mate!

How did you learn to turn?

I'm self taught too apart from a weekend course about 25 years back centred on boxes. That was with Ian Wilkie. A really delightful bloke and he gave me a lovely ½ skew and a turning smock. Both of which are still in use. I screwed up my back and took early retirement just before my 50th. That...

    Cutting circles on a bandsaw?

I did my 18" lasy Susan on my lathe. That makes it round  Oh, nearly forgot to say that I also turned all 36 of the ⅝" balls on the lathe too, good fun
