New kid on the block, saying Hi...

Hi from me too minotauruk. Working with wood is addictive. I hope that you realise that! Just something to note. If you are working with spalted wood be very careful of the dust. That's fungus and definitely not good for you so be sure to wear a good dust mask. I love turning spalted wood...

    A good abrasive?

A few taps may well be OK, but I am not too sure where you will find a tap on a crickit pitch already?

    The cold and the birds.

For feeding the birds this is a good guide for your scraps Rafe. I just ordered another load from the RSPB that should keep us going for a while. There's a greater spotted woodpecker that loves the fat/suet cakes we put out. One of the good things about where we live now is that I won't be...

    Record CL1 36 x 15 Manual

That's correct Sam. That bit replaces the support for the bars at the headstock end and a couple more bits bolt on to that to make the complete large bowl attachment. This is what mine looks like. note it is blue. I believe that the newer ones are green? Is there any way that I can actually...

    The cold and the birds.

More solid ice this morning and when I had to pour some warm water onto an upturned dish a Mrs blackbird was drinking from the puddle formed on the wall while I was just a few feet away filling the other one. If you got one or two feeders you would have one of the most fascinating wild life...

    The cold and the birds.

Bob, there aren't flowing rivers close to us and as said it takes energy to find them. Any standing/still water will and does freeze solid. What happened in the old days? They died if they couldn't find water.

    Record CL1 36 x 15 Manual

You are lucky to inherit it, I had to buy mine. That was about 20 years back and still going well. The only real modification for mine has been a 3ø variable speed motor and worth every penny. There is little or no maintainance on it as the head stock bearings are ball races. For lubrication of...

    The cold and the birds.

As we may have all noticed it is a tad cold!!! So can I ask all to make sure that the garden birds have some water to drink. It is vital for them. This morning I had to empty the two cast iron dishes of solid ice and refill them. This afternoon I had to break the ice in them again and within a...

Beall Buffing, what am I doing wrong?

I too have the Beal system John and the only time that I have had to clean a wheel was the time I had a complete brain cell attack and used it for a second on a brass Spitfire !!! As you say, Beal says to clean with an abrasive and I used 80 grit on a block. Since then I haven't had...
