Post a photo of the last thing you turned

Definitely a one off! Featured in another thread Stabilising a banana covered pottery vase? And if you can give any advise on that theme I would be VERY grateful 🤞

    Which woods?

Steer clear of iroko, or at least I do, as it can cause skin reaction and irritation. Other than that it's always a very good idea to wear a good dust mask, but that aside as Phil said, any wood you can get is a good way of learning. If you are just starting out on this wonderful slippery...

Stabilising a banana covered pottery vase?

Yes, you read the title correctly  I'm involved with a local Men's Shed and we have had a large pottery vase donated. It's quite soft=ish pot and \I think it's called unglazed earthen ware. It is covered in what is almost certainly banana leaves and the general idea is to turn it into...

    Tuffsaws?

I have been trying to contact Ian at Tuffswas. Has anyone else had difficulties? The probability is that he's on holiday I suppose?

    Sealey SM 13903 bandsaw?

James, I can only agree with tyou, but they don't make the 301 anymore and it would be far too many beer tokens as well if they did. This one isn't what used to be called cheap and cheerful, it's just cheap me-thinks. Just as well it was got via some Amazonian place, because I think the kindest...

    Sealey SM 13903 bandsaw?

I assume that there aren't any of these things around?

    Sealey SM 13903 bandsaw?

I am wandering if anyone has one of these saws and if so then what is the verdict on it? One was bought for the Mens Shed I have got involved with by one of the members and it's been my job to 'try' to set it up. So far I just can't get it to cut a straight line and the blade is NOT well brazed...

    Einhell TC-5B 200/1 bandsaw?

I agree HJ, but not for the lot we have me-thinks. They have to be shown how to dismember a pallet! Plus, we don't have the kit or the room for it in the container that's our shed. If we get the grant that is being asked for then a new saw will be by far the best bet.

    Einhell TC-5B 200/1 bandsaw?

The mountings for the guides, side and rear, are very simple and it appears to be the blade that's too far forward. Both wheels are solid on their bearings and I have had the top off and adjusted the carriage for the top wheel as far back as it will go, in fact I have adjusted it right through...

    Einhell TC-5B 200/1 bandsaw?

That's very kind of you Wally, but I think it may just be chucking good money after bad? There is a 5/16" blade with it too. It looks as knacked as the ¼", but when I get time I will have a look at it. The 5/16 would only mean an extra 1/32" further back for the blade to still run in the middle...

    Einhell TC-5B 200/1 bandsaw?

Not in France any more Wally. Juat about 100 miles way from you and near Malmesbury Wilts, so still toooo far mate, but thank you for the thought. I am a retired IBM mainframe hardware eng, so foairy handy with a hammer, etc. The shaft that the rear bearing is on is as far forward as it will go...

    Einhell TC-5B 200/1 bandsaw?

The blade is running in the centre of the top tyre and both tyres are in good knick Both top and bottom guides are straight and they can't really be fitted wrongly as the short shaft they are mounted on has a tapped hole for the locking screw and a short slotted hole in the black assembly in...

    Einhell TC-5B 200/1 bandsaw?

The back stop bearing is as far forward as it will go and you can see just how far back on the blade the guide is Sorry but it won't show the second photo unless you click on the 'icon' that should be the photo? The guide is touching the back of the guide

I assume that nobody has any ideas about this problem?

    Einhell TC-5B 200/1 bandsaw?

I am helpijng to set up a Men's Shed and we had an Einhell bandsaw donated. It was advertised as spares or repair, so I didn't expect too much. After a nice drive out to Salisbury we got home and I had a look at it. A little 2 wheel saw with pion type blade guides and a bearing back stop. BUT...

    Thin Parting Tools

I use a ⅛" X ¼" parting tool from my miniture Crown set. It works a treat and don't forget that you are digging in to a curve and even with the little tool I use I still have to widen the slot slightly to stop any binding. I too have one of the knife type parting tools and have had it for years...

A bit more experimenting using 3 ½" square ash and some black walnut gave me some nice results too Start with this And you get this 9" diameter X 3" deep And 4 bits of ash 3 ½" square looks good too The only limit is your imagination I suppose?

    Turning wheels

I was given this lot a long while back and they are well over 100 years old. Box wood and bronze. I had to turn 40 curtain rings while we were living in France and I used the same idea, only in pine, as there was no way I was going to butcher any of those beautiful chucks. All I did was turn...
