    Best way to store planes?

This has always worked for me. Simple and cheap A bit of hardboard and a few rare earth magnets is all you need. Then if you have to take them else where thay are still safe.

Things you say that got you into the dog house.

We were talking, SWMBO and I, about choosing something or other in some posh shop and she wanted one thing and I disagreed and said to her that it should be my choice because she should realise that I have a much better sense of taste than she does. The shop assistant was ready to duck when the...

What you really mean is "Vous êtes fou???" He didn't speak any English and nor did our neighbours. Plus, he wouldn't have thought anything wrong. That along with no ear defenders, goggles or even glasses, what else would you expect. He earns his living trying to kill himself!

Jacob, spinning? You could always try a Book Charka. It's an Indian spinning wheel. This is a 'rough up' that I did to see just how it works and it's a bit rough but it does work. The wheel with the stainless wires plugged into it is to wind the wool from the bobbin into a skein. There's a...

What's the most stupid thing you've done in woodworking?

When we lived in France we wanted a couple of pines by the swimming pool taking down. So we got a couple of pro arborists in to do the job. One was quite careful, the other He's about 10' up a ladder holding on to a stub of a branch and using a top handle chainsaw about a foot away from his...

    Wooden hinge box

Not so much a box as a clock case. No jigs around when I made this either, just some cerefull drilling on my bench drill and as it had to be fairly slim around the pin hole it's re-enforced with cyano. The pin stops part way down the bottom bit on the case and a short pin is glued into...

    Another Joke

The BBC were saying the other day that about 1/3 of the different kinds of fish in the U.Ks' rivers are now extinct. That includes sturgeon. Do you think that the Scots should throw her back in?

    Securing your workshop

When I have had alarms anywhere the siren has always been mounted inside. That way it not only disorientates the thugs but they can't hear if anyone is coming to find out what's going on. The plus is that if it's ;oud enough it's very difficult to steal anything with your fingers in your ears...

Things you can't dent with the spouse

Something O forgot to say was not so much about thermostats, but windows. Central heating on, "Oh, It's a bit stuffy in here" so windows get thrown open to 'get some air'. One thing I've found from it is that it take a hell of a long time to heat the garden! and if I'm second in the shower...

Things you can't dent with the spouse

Mine does like sharp knives although it took several years to convince her. Now I have got to try to convince her that once she has cut through that bit of meat she's going to cook that the plate it's on is not supposed to be cut in 1/2 :censored::censored: OK, give me the knife and I'll...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

Whem I was in the R.A.F. we used to get a GDT, Ground Defence Training, lecture once a year. One lecture, at R.A.F. Lyneham we were sat listening to this Rock Ape (R.A.F. Regiment) Warrant Officer telling us the best was to dig a slit trench, 6 foot long by 6 foot deep. Some young Zob (officer)...

    Chess pieces advice?

That's a very pleasing set Ian and I too like the knight! There's a lovely finish on them and the grain is beautiful. My board was done with the end grain showing. I also decided to do a band saw box games box. Chess, backgammon and draughts. Same idea for the board on the outside, holly and...
