Ok, at last the right way round,
The wedged tendons are a challenge as they are but they are compounded by the tapered ‘leg’.
Planing this taper will mean planing the taper into the tenons as well. The piece is never thick enough to allow the double tenons to be set back - even less so as I’m...
I’ve started working on Alan Peters step stool and i’ve been frozen with a joinery conundrum. I may be over thinking this or I may be missing something blindingly obvious but here goes...
Your right re norms workshop - Hardboard.
The laminate was used on a study desk or a bathroom vanity and more.
If i’m Honest it’s half sentiment and half curiosity that is leading me to making the tops from the laminate.
I made the tops already from hardwood ply that has been varnished and they...
Hey all,
I’m finishing my workshop cabinets and i’d Like to do the ‘worktops’ like norm Abram- two sheet’s of ply, oak edging and ‘white plastic laminate’ finish fixed with contact cement.
In terms of ‘plastic laminate’ what should I be looking for? What’s the correct term?
My search’s keep...

Home Depot will arrange for international shipping to Ireland (and UK surely) and take care of import levies. I think this will be worth while in bulk. I’m going to try 10 no.
Thanks everyone.
In what may be a conclusion, a desiccant dehumidifier seems to be the answer. I agree re working in a shop that’s too warm. Even when it’s at its coldest these days it is still close to comfortable to work. Therefore taking out the moisture and raising the temp a smidge should...
So do I understand correctly that IR will not, or at least be very poor at, getting the shop to a consistent ambient temperature?
I should clarify further, the shop is actually very well insulated. Block cavity wall with 200mm insulation
For clarity, see here for what I had in mind.

Enclosure is important for me too as it will mostly be working when i’m not there.
I’ve a fairly well insulated workshop and I want to get it to a uniform temperature all year round. I was thinking of an electric heater with timer (for night saver electricity) and a thermostat to top out the temp.
Has anyone experience with infrared heaters?
Apparently they are economical...
Quick update- the startrite sold pretty quickly as advised Adam. The Hammer C331 has been ordered and is due for delivery on Friday next.
I take a few snaps of the delivery and setup.
I went for the comfort model with a 2m slider plus a few accessories.
I'll keep you in suspense until delivery
First and most importantl step is to close all surplus air openings - this will direct all your extraction to the blade opening. The bottom of most saws is open, the spaces where the trunion adjustment exits the saw etc.
Ok, I'm very close to a decision and about to drop the hammer on a machine. About to drop the hammer on a hammer as it turns out. 3 months procrastination is not bad by my standards.
I must make room now so I have a Startrite TS300 to shift first. Would there be any market in the U.K. for one of...
No, I'm across the water in Ireland. I get to the uk a good bit though. I spent a week in Lincolnshire a few weeks ago and the nearest place that seemed of interest was the scm/minimax showroom in Nottingham. I'll be trying that the next time though.
