Argh, you lot have a lot to answer for.

Hmmm, there would appear to be something in the air. Since I've seen an ECE plough plane on sale at a reduction by Rutlands I've been prowling the net for some form of plough. However some of the good folk at this forum have politely redirected my attention towards a more sensible Stanley 45...

Brian Boggs on The Woodright's Shop

I think Roy needs to keep his hands to himself. He's a little too hands on with the guest in terms of the tools and stock. Eoin

Gidon, cheers for that. Seems cheaper than trying to make my own. Eoin

How many are interested in buying a Domino before Xmas ?

Hey there, I'm pretty new to the Festool Domino but I can see the attraction. However. are the dominos expensive to restock? Or can they be easily made on a router table? Eoin

Mortiser bits for a pillar drill

Am I right in thinking that you have also bought a morticing attachment for the drill press. If not, you might be in trouble. It also has been argued that, even if you do have the attachment, you might still be in some trouble. The attachments tend to be flimsy, inaccurate and difficult to...

    ECE Plough Plane

Hey all, It being christmas, and there being no one better placed to get me the perfect christmas present than myself, I've being browsing for a bargain or two. I have returned to Rutlands clearance lines a few times and there is an ECE plough plane at half price (£130.00). However I must be...

    Planked Oak

Quarter sawing is a nice thought but impractical in a DIY situation. Difficult even with a wood mizer. Quarter sawing is also very wasteful. As an enthusiast rather than a professional I have found that plain sawing is enough. Over all its more economical, easier and excluding the waste, about...

    Planked Oak

Jasons advice on the thickness options sounds good to me. You need to leave it outside initially to get the moisture down to a manageable level. It could be anything from 40 - 70% MC when planked depending on how long the tree is down. When stacked well, stickered and with a good circulation...

    Eze-lap diamond stones

Cheers for that Alf, thought I was out of luck there for a while. I'll be purchasing a duo-sharp (fine, very fine or what ever) asap. Eoin

    Eze-lap diamond stones

I've been doing some searching and the only source for the DMT Duo Sharp in Ireland and the UK (in woodworking sites) appears to be Yandles who are not the cheapest. Is there someone I'm missing (outside of Rutlands, Tilgear, Axminster) Eoin

Calling any Startrite 275 TS owners - Advice needed

    Just a quick note - a .55KW motor is only .75HP. A 3HP motor would be around 2.2KW.

    Eze-lap diamond stones

Based on the response I take it that the DMT plates are the preferred option. I see there is a dia-sharp and a duo sharp, one being set in a metal alloy and the other being set in a plastic respectfully. Which of these is the perferred option? Any advice on supplier. Thanks lads Eoin

    Forum Users Bandsaws

Hey there, I've recently got a Record BS500. I haven't got much chance to use it yet and I'm still on the record blade while getting used to the machine. I'm having a problem with the tracking but I'm sure I can resolve that. I'm a little curious as to why no-one else has one. Is this...

    Eze-lap diamond stones

Hey all, has anyone got experience with the eze-lap diamond stones as opposed to the DMT ones? How do they compare? I'm considering a set of the double sided ones from Rutlands - http://www.rutlands.co.uk/hand-tools/sh ... ond-stones . Is there much of an advantage with 8"x3" over the standard...

    lie neilsen or clifton no.7

I've seen the Cliftons compared with the LN's a lot on US forums. Prejudice aside there was a lot of criticism for the setup of the Cliftons when delivered - how flat the sole was, how well the blade sat, how square the sides were, general use-ability out of the box. Are these comments fair...

    Planer thicknesser choices

I've seen a 12 inch startrite planer thicknesser for less than £1000. It seems to be on offer from record/startrite dealers. Is this not an option?

    Mystery rural wooden object ID

I'm not sure about the scale of it but if it's to be lifted by two people I have some faint recollection that it might be for butter. Just for moving about medium to large quantities of it. It wasn't something you could carry in your hands.
