Dust extraction advice for mitre saw....

I have a Makita LS1018L and the dust extraction is rubbish. 50% of the dust doesn't actually go in the tube connected to the dust port. I've tried both shop vac and extractor and neither make much difference. I just have the bag attached now. Looking at the newer mitre saws they have a much...

    Cordless brad nailer advice wanted.

I don't own any DeWalt tools. All my cordless tools are Makita. I'll have a look into them.

    Cordless brad nailer advice wanted.

Cheers for the advice Spence. I'll stay clear of that one. It seems there are about 6-7 of the same units in different colours and branding on the market. I have a couple of brad nail guns and a headless pinner (air) and a 50L compressor. I was after the convenience of no airline. I haven't...

    Makita 18v orbital sander

I've not really used the lower two settings but I'll have a go later. Bought the kids an iMac for Christmas and now they want a desk and chair for it. #-o Dust collection is surprisingly good. I was going to get an adapter to connect my extractor but that might not be needed. And yes, the...

    Makita 18v orbital sander

Well, the sander arrived today and I must say after a couple of hours of use it’s pretty good. I was a bit sceptical when I first turned it on because of the relatively low speed but the balance is perfect. This thing is going to be used a lot I imagine! Cheers ColeyS1

Is Pineboard a good alternative to Ply for shop cabinets?

You’re welcome. This is the stuff I use 99% of the time as I make toy boxes and shelf units. I rarely use ply and don’t use MDF

Is Pineboard a good alternative to Ply for shop cabinets?

Hi John, I get them from LBM (Lawrence Brothers Maltby) I get trade discount as I buy quite a few (10+ a week) Normal Price is £32.00 I believe. You can get these cheaper than that from Optimum Timber in Conisbrough (Doncaster) but you have to buy 20+ at a time and I can't store that many at...

    Router bit ****.

Thanks. I’ve had a look and they list quite a few roundover/ovolo bits so I’ll have to measure my current bit and get one ordered. I still have 4 Trend ones left to tie me over.

    Router bit ****.

I’ve soaked them in washing machine liquid overnight before and it did make a difference but the cheap bits seem to last as long as the more expensive ones. Maybe they’re different if used on hardwoods? I’ll try some meths. It’ll be quicker than an over night soak. Thanks

Is Pineboard a good alternative to Ply for shop cabinets?

I wouldn't touch B&Q, Wickes and the like for timber full stop. You'll be fine with laminated pine. I make toy boxes out of this stuff and never had a problem over the last 7 years.

    Router bit ****.

Are these worth buying over cheap bits? I cut pine 99% of the time and the resin sticks to the cutter and a 3 quid router bit lasts as long as a 17 quid Trend bit.

Is Pineboard a good alternative to Ply for shop cabinets?

I'm using 18mm laminated pine on a daily basis and would say it's strong enough for building cupboards etc. Price wise I don't think there's much difference in price between 18mm ply and 18mm pine. I'm paying £27.00 a sheet (3000x600) and I think a 8x4 sheet of ply is not far off that. As Mike...

    Cordless brad nailer advice wanted.

I have been looking at the Makita DBN500 brad nailer for a while but I don't think I can justify the price tag at £290.00 for the bare tool at the moment. I have a couple of air powered brad nailers (18g) which I use on a daily basis but not excessive. I know Aldi did an 18v brad nailer for...

    Dust collection advice needed

Same here. Mine is the 2hp and but also situated outside the workshop in it's own little enclosure (portaloo toilet the misses refers it to) and you can't hear the thing when running. I have a dual remote control switch to turn both HVLP extractors on but thinking of an LED of some sort to...

    Dust collection advice needed

Same here. My HVLP collectors get used more than my HPLV ones. I think it depends what tools are connected to it and if you can get away with more than one. I have a Fox F50-842 2hp (HVLP) dust extractor outside the workshop connected to my router table and belt/disc sander, a Clarke CDE35B...

    Makita 18v orbital sander

I've just ordered one of these as a late Christmas present for myself. Should be here by Monday. As I have ordered the bare tool with Makpac case and inlay (I have two spare 4Ah batteries and charger to go with it) I suspect the case not to have the correct sticker to show what's in...

Makita 18v random orbital sander (DBO180) Any reviews?

Just looking for recommendations as I'm looking to buy a Makita cordless sander. The price is right for the bare unit and Makpac case and I have a spare set of 4 amp batteries and a charger to go with it after upgrading the batteries to 5 amp on my planer. I'm using two corded (Clarke) orbital...
