    Masks that work with specs!

I'm ex services (RN) joined up in 1980. We all got issued with gas masks which came with a little tub of anti fog compound. You wiped a bit of it on a soft cloth then applied it (very sparingly) to the inside face of the mask visor then polished off the excess. Brilliant stuff! But I've lost...

Cheap and quick doors for cupboards

Have made a cabinet for a customer to enclose an unsightly steel girder and a electrical distribution board. The frame is made out of 63x38mm stud timber and its cladded with 9mm ply - nothing fancy but something to tidy up the corner of a car showroom, its all going to be painted in gloss white...

Best 6" Random Orbital Sander or should I get a forced rotation (geared) Sander?

I use a Makita 125mm (5 inch) cordless. Awesome bit of kit but, of course, you need LXT batteries as well. No problem for me as I use a lot of Makita cordless tools.

Lovely work guitardoctor! So much more skill involved than the work I do which is all straight lines and square angles (occasional 45°) Luthier work is all curves!

    Makita router lift

AES, thanks for your comments. Really not trying to overcomplicate things. I have very limited knowledge of engineering especially when it comes to different steel types. I asked about high tensile steel bolts because these came up in a search for the bolts I'm after. Mild steel bolts don't seem...

    Makita router lift

Thank you Stimpy for your offer! I have seen some high tensile steel bolts that meet my requirements. Would that sort of steel be suitable and ok to machine with a die? If so, I'll order some and send one in the post. And pay for the return postage, of course. Could you message me direct with...

    Makita router lift

Thank you Lee, I'll contact them to see how much of the bolt is threaded. I suspect not enough. I have toyed with the idea of getting some threaded bar and cutting the head of another bolt and then glueing them together with epoxy. Not sure how good epoxy is in shear though

    Makita router lift

I have a Makita RP2301FCX 1/2" plunge router which I'm going to mount in a router table. The manual says that its height can be adjusted from above the table by inserting a M6 135mm bolt through the table into a threaded hole in the plunge base and through to a threaded hole on the side of the...

Wood moisture meter for firewood logs - any recommendations?

Bl**dy hell! That's a lot of wood to process. Get yourself a chainsaw saw horse like this : The Handy THSHWCS 25cm Log Capacity Log Saw Horse with Chainsaw Support And a hydraulic log splitter which, combined with a decent portable generator will let you split your logs "in the field"

Had a rebadged one of these from Rutlands. Utter rubbish. Don't touch it with a barge pole

Wood moisture meter for firewood logs - any recommendations?

I would suggest that you don't bother with the meter. Cut and split your logs to size. Store them off the ground (I use some old pallets) and cover with a tarp. Most log burner manufacturers recommend seasoning your wood for 2 years but in my experience 1 year to 18 months seems fine. Be careful...

Sold Axminster Folding Router Table Kit

Hello Paul, could you tell me if the outfeed fence is adjustable? I need a table that can do edge jointing so I need an outfeed fence that can be shimmed out to max 2mm. I can't see any holes in the router mounting plate. Is it a new blank plate? Where are you based? Many thanks, Paul F
