    What is it?

Ooh I reckon this one might run a while, Im guessing the cauldron bit on the end is to hold a molten liquid (glue or pitch :? ) and the section behind with the clamp is to place hot coals in to keep said liquid molten and the long section is a handle to enable pouring :?

    What is it?

Andy if it was'nt the season of goodwill to all men I would be cursing you for getting it so quickly  well done =D> and a point to you as well Tom =D> (I use a spoke dog to pull the spokes into position to allow the tenons on the ends of them to enter the mortices in the wheel rim)...

Yes Andy , as soon as you get the expanded tyre over the rim you run water from a hose on it to cool it down and shrink it onto the rim. You can hear the creaking and groaning as the joints all pull up tight under the contraction of the metal, leaving the wheel in permanent tension

    Elm Cabinet III...DUN

Why Elm ? Its neither the prettiest of timbers or the nicest to work with and was long regarded as a cheap timber with its main uses being wheel hubs (for its ability for its interlocked grain to avoid splitting) and cheaper coffins (it lasts longer than any native timber underground)

Just put the steel tyres back on a set of old wheels this morning. Love a good fire  you've got to heat them up in the fire first ( the tyre not the wheel for obvious reasons   ) When I got them they looked like this and were dated 1897  after being cut down to...
