    So this Dovetailing business?...

He does pins first as it suits him better. He cuts them by eye and can saw straight down quickly. But marking out the tail board is harder.

    So this Dovetailing business?...

Agreed! But keep in mind you cannot dovetail everything. Fake wood should not be dovetailed. Plam, melamine, MDF, chip board etc.; Also bear in mind if your case is based on rail and stile panels. Here your going to have short grain in the tails. Not good! I like the machine cut lock mitre...

    So this Dovetailing business?...

OMG A 2mm kerf! OMG A tennon saw? Use a metal hacksaw until you can get a dovetail saw. A dovetail saw has two differences of note. First it has the shape of a tennon saw but it’s cut as a rip saw. Second, the saw set is set very fine for better control and to improve surface finish. A fine set...

    So this Dovetailing business?...

Good job so far. Tails are a dark secret of pro wood workers. Oh they are so hard you must be a master…….Nope they are not hard. Caution: watch out for tool venders and hucksters selling the latest gizmos….you don’t need them. I learned years ago from two masters. Jim Kingshot and Christian...

    Forstner bit and aluminium

You may try using a piloted spotting mill cutter. I got one that spots a 7/8 in spotting operation using a 1/2 in shank. The pilot helps you line up the spot with the hole. What your doing here is a classic spotting operation.

    Forstner bit and aluminium

Carbide router bits cut aluminum. Most foster bits are has. An endmill will work. I just began restoration of a wood shaper that I pulled out of Boeing Vertol. They used it to make aluminum helicopter parts. So it's not uncommon to use many woodworking tools on aluminum. Just make sure your...

Talking myself out of buying premium tools

Oh my. Here we go again. Paul Sellers is half right. Yes, he does not buy the new premium stuff, but the used stuff he has is top shelf. Some of the finest work including the work done by chippendales were done in england on tools not made by lie nielsen. I am envious of you Brits for having...

Did you see the report that boilers sales are to stop 2025

Omg And here I thought the crazy yanks had a corner on this market. Last summer, we were evacuated twice as beetle kill standing wood burst into forest fires. I just installed a 188,000 BTU Buderus boiler burning propane along with a hydronic wood burning boiler interfaced into six zones with...

    Lets talk lawn mowers.

Wow. I am a yank and I have to agree totally with the initial post. My last company did retail fitment. I was an e ginger and operator for very expensive german cnc machines. When our management took us in a different direction just prior to covid, I was concerned. Then covid hit. 50 years of...

    Tube benders

I gave up years ago on benders. Last tubing project was a heat exchanger. I placed flare fittings on both ends of the copper tubing and filled it with water. Make sure you get all the air out. Caps thread into the flare fittings to seal everything. Then I turned a wood cylinder to the ID of the...
