The Build Begins (Workshop in Garage)

To hang a full sheet on the wall easily... Use cleats! One split batten at the top to hang it from and one unsplit at the bottom (screwed to the board) to space out from the wall the same distance. Pick up the board, hang it on the cleat. Job done. HTH Pete

Source of switch for old 'FERM' router

What do folk think about this table ?

I can't speak for Heal's margins, but I used to know someone who sold handmade bags through Harrods. They marked her price up by 300%. I also knew a maker who tried to get Heal's interested in selling his work. They were, but in spite of the seemingly astronomical prices they charge at retail...

    Axminster AWSL lathe

I bought one of these as a first woodturning lathe about 12 years ago. It was excellent for the money. I needed a tool that would make round things, I had no interest in being a "woodturner". It turned out to be great for the round things, but brilliant for "woodturning". Buy it. As long as it's...

    Height adjustable workbench

Adjustable height could give you stability problems and (I think) is a bit gimmicky. I would plan a solid workbench at a height to suit you, then match the height of the machines to that. Pete

    Carpenters tool box?

I made this a few years ago out of recycled Lundia shelving. It suits me fine. If you want drawers accessible from the outside, you'll need to find some way of securing them so they don't slide out accidentally. I've not found it a nuisance to open the box to get access. Make it too big and...

    User manuals

You've just forgotten. They're in the cupboard, on top of the safety guards off your machines. Pete

Fine Dust and general dust extraction

Until 5 minutes ago I knew nothing of FFP3, but a google search of the term "FFP3" found pretty much everything you need to know. You are overthinking all this. Just get on with it and have some fun! Pete

Fine Dust and general dust extraction

Yes. Massively. Just connect the saw to the dust extractor you have and use it. Simple as that. No need for anemometers, cyclones, baffles, secondary units or in-depth research on websites of dubious provenance. Just go with number 10 on your list, and enjoy the pride you'll feel from a job well...

    Gas meter box

All UK boxes have the same latch, which is opened by a universal, triangular key, carried by meter readers and the emergency services. So not quite as nuts as it sounds. Pete

Help needed from a bandsaw wizard

In the 1970's I worked for a manufacturing company and was partly responsible for identifying hazards and ensuring that all their machinery complied with the (then new) health and safety at work act. I learned from experience that if, on a machine the size of a house, there was one hole left...

Help needed from a bandsaw wizard

I'm not familiar with your particular machine, but I have come across similarly obstructive devices on other bandsaws. I assumed it's to stop you from chopping the ends of your fingers off if you poke them up underneath the table. I'm happy to be proved wrong though... Pete

    Military Battle Tactics

I'm reading this at the moment. Not sure if it's strictly "Military", but it certainly gives a new perspective to all those 1950s cowboy films. Pete

    Multi-Tools (Leatherman)

I have one of the miniature versions. It cost me $6, it lives in my luggage and I take it on holiday when we stay in rented accommodation. It's utterly invaluable. Pete

    bandsaw tyres

You could try http://www.solenttools.co.uk . They specialise in aftermarket spares for all sorts of 'unserviceable' machine tools. I couldn't find yours in their index, but they have an encyclopaedic knowledge of what will fit and have got me out of several scrapes over the years. Pete

    Dust extractor.

I've come across something similar somewhere before. In the one I saw, there was a flexible metal band running through a hem on top of the bottom bag. This will deform easily into an oval so you can push the whole top up through the bottom opening. Once inside it will resume its circular shape...
