Peter Sefton Furniture School Open Day 22nd July

Some absolutely stunning pieces on display today, Dark Side of the Room Table was my favourite closely followed by the Ellipse Tables and the 103 Cabriole Console Table. But all the work was just superb. One day ...

    Box making books or guides

Me too! I saw that Classic Handtools stock his dowel drill jig as well.

    Box making books or guides

Excellent, thanks both. Really appreciate the time taken to reply and lots of ideas. The books were to get me started with some of the basics and then give me the confidence to make my own.

    Box making books or guides

That looks great. I might need a few attempts to get close to that. What did you use for the lining?

    Box making books or guides

I want to start improving and possibly even finessing my skills by making a few boxes. I wonder if anyone has any recommendations for books, guides plans or videos to watch to get some instruction and some inspiration. A quick trawl through Amazon threw up a lot of options so it would be good to...

    Incra track prices

Highly recommend Woodworkers Workshop. I've bought a fair bit from them. Added bonus if you go on a course at Peter Sefton's Furniture School you get a discount :)

    Oak worktop for table vice

Great, thanks for all the comments and advice, and reassured I'm not about to do something too daft. I don't think I'm too fussed by the thickness as like DTR above I can't remember when I used a vice to capacity, and would rather its solid. The workbench it is going on is not a solid one as for...

    Oak worktop for table vice

Cheers. Yes, lose a bit of capacity but I thought in this style of vice it's better to have thicker jaws as there's less support to the jaws.

    Oak worktop for table vice

I picked up a new screw vice from Axminster at the weekend and was planning to use some left over 38mm thick oak kitchen worktop for the faces of the vice. Its nice and solid but can anyone see any potential issues with how the worktop is constructed (butcher block style?) and using it in a vice...

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

So I've just finished reading this through from the start - it's been an addictive read over the last few days. It's got it all, *** (well, the odd date here and there), drugs (plenty of ibruprofen by the sounds of it) and rock and roll (folk music but close enough). Given that the BBC are about...

    Dewalt router Base

I used to have the 2-in-1 version and it was excellent. Maybe try a Dewalt dealer and see what they would charge. Someone like D&M in Twickenham maybe?

    Laminate in Garage? Good/bad idea?

I've used this stuff in my workshop and found it to be very good. Comfortable enough to stand on all day and more forgiving if you drop anything. http://www.ecotileflooring.com/applicat ... -flooring/

    Software for modelling timber framing

The free version, SketchUp Make, should be able to do all that. The measurement tool is really useful for getting dimensions. Some of the best tutorials I have watched are the many videos from Jay Bates on YouTube, well worth checking out.

    Software for modelling timber framing

Try SketchUp, it's free but very good. It's quick to pick up but you can do a lot with it. There's a paid version with a layout programme and I think you start off with a 30 day free trial of the pro version anyway.

The usual bank holiday saga ...

And they sent the wrong screws after all that, fine thread not coarse! I've taken the hint, downed tools and opened the wine! At least shops are open tomorrow.
