    Making internal doors

No, the width is almost dead on (711mm, existing doors are just under that). It's trimming off the height that's the problem. Standard size is 1981mm, but existing door is 1948mm, which is 33mm. There are doors that allow up to 80mm to be trimmed off either side, but I've yet to find a panelled...

    Making internal doors

We're wanting to replace a few of the doors in our house, but I've found that for the shaker-style design we want, off-the-shelf doors will require more trimming than is allowed. We could go down the route of ordering bespoke doors but that doubles the cost. It did get me wondering if it would...

What wood for outdoor furniture / planters?

I've used pressure treated softwood for planters/raised beds (unpainted). They are holding up, but it's only been 3 years. I did coat them with a preservative, particularly any cut ends. I also lined the interior (this was mostly to protect the wood from wet soil though it also stops any...

Router bit too large for insert plate

@Sachakins @sometimewoodworker I dont have a table saw unfortunately. I'm a bit limited on space and also very new to this, so trying to be careful with what tools I do buy and get the most of out of them. So I may get one further down the line if I can see myself using it lots (and then working...

Router bit too large for insert plate

@Mickjay I do, and it does, but it's the table plate that the bit won't fit through. And as you mention, there is still the issue with the router not being powerful enough.

Router bit too large for insert plate

@dizjasta previously I have used that to make a drawer using the 1/4 1/4 1/4 method. I used an undersized straight bit (I didnt know the exact dimensions of the ply, I just knew it would be thinner than advertised...) and routing jig to cut the dados and rabbets. It worked, but I figured a slot...

Router bit too large for insert plate

Thank you for the advice! Regarding the router not being powerful enough, is the the issue with the router bit/type of cut or is it the depth of cut? I only need a groove of about 5mm deep, which I was going to do on muiltiple passes. That the bit can cut a depth up to ~15mm was simply because...

Router bit too large for insert plate

I own a (Katsu) palm router, and in order to cut some groves to take 5.5mm ply, I bought a 7/32" slot cutter and table insert. Unfortunately I failed to account for the diameter of the bit (~50mm) which is too wide to fit through the plate (42mm). I think I might be able to insert the bit...

    Hello!

Hi all! Up until a year ago I had never done anything with wood. Then I managed to convince myself (and my wife) that it would much cheaper to buy £100s in tools and build our own planters rather than buy them... I would of course need to build a bench first :ROFLMAO: Anyway, I'm hooked. And...
