    Kitchen units....

Just ordered our new one from a local company Wren seemed overpriced and poorly made, the “designer” didn’t really have any ideas either Magnet seemed better, but seemed to focus on the gizmos, and again didn’t feel that robust. Ikea was interesting and cheaper but again no design. As they...

    Never lend tools!!

It’s always a learning experience to see how someone else thinks to use a tool that would appear self explanatory.

+1 for BND, if you give them a call they’re pretty amenable and extremely knowledgable. I’d have no hesitation to try anything they recommend

    anybody used wera screwdrivers?

Had one of the multi bit sets for the workshop, and ended up getting another for the house, all the bits you need in a compact set. Makes it easy to grab for odd jobs at other people’s houses as when they say it’s a hex screw and it turns out to be torx it’s not a problem

    Acceptable tolerances for building work

Thanks all, reassuring I’m not expecting too much. Once the house part is done the workshop is next so hopefully they’ll put it all right without too much grumbling and everything will be square from now on

    Acceptable tolerances for building work

Wondering if people could help check whether I’m being overly fussy, which I hope I’m not. Currently having an extension built and they’ve just blocked up to DPC level. Looking at it after work it looked a little off to my eye so I got a tape out. One of the corners is out of square leading to...

    Getting stoned (on the bench...)

Having used a fair few different types of stones, and slogging away refurbing boot sale chisels with 80 grit sandpaper, I’ve now come to point where it’s a quick hollow grind on a bench grinder and then a quick hone on whichever stone is nearest / out on the side. A norton combi oilstone has a...

Spray Adhesive For Attaching Abrasive Sheets To Granite Tile

You can get PSA on a roll but have to pay more for the privilege If you’re using cloth backed abrasive on a tile, putting it on a longer wooden board means you can nail it down with clout nails over the top, just be sure to pull it tight

    Scraper sharpening

Carbide rods are pretty cheap from Chinese sources if you don’t mind the wait for shipping, and are an easy way to make a burnisher for a few quid that’ll cope with pretty much anything, just don’t go for too small a diameter as will be relatively brittle in longer lengths
