Best bench grinder for under £60

Hi I am also looking for similar. What speed would be considered to be "slower running". Any suggestions of a slower model that would take a 40mm wide Norton 3x wheel? Mark

    230v 60hz ?????

IIRC, if you search Jon's posts, you will see exactly how he got on with the motor when it was in the saw. Surfice to say he saw fit to change it out. Mark

    Triton TRB001 - 8mm collet/reducer?

I logged on to handytools to buy this reducer today as I was given a number of 8mm cutters when I bought my T5 and thought it would be handy to be able to put them in the Triton as well. Cost £6.37, not bad I thought. Postage £7.68!!! Apparently this is standard parcel service. I can't...

    Insulating floor on shed

In my opinion the answer is yes Heat rises by convection, but this is not the only way it travels. In my victorian house I have exposed floor boards sat on joists, literally over the ground. I have lifted all these, insulated between the joists and relayed them. The difference is...

Bed slide extensions as per DIY SOS

Hi I have a single bed that slides under another bit of funiture. It's just on wheels and it works fine. The weight of the bed keeps it straight when you push/pull it. But wheels, not casters, which would skate off in all directions and be diffucult to put back quickly. Hope this helps Mark

    Featheredge

Neil thanks for your offer. However I suspect it will be more work than how Mike has described using normal featheredge so will probably employ his method and make myself a little bracket. So thanks Mike as well. And I promise to use only one nail!! I have a couple of places fairly local...

    Featheredge

That is exactly what I'm looking for Colin Now that everyone now knows what I struggled to describe, does anyone know where I can get it within reasonable distance of Surrey? (It would take me far too long to rebate myself with the tools at my disposal) Mark

    Featheredge

Guys thanks so far What I am after, when its on, looks exactly like feather edge. It just sits fully flat to the subframe due to the rebate (which makes it easier for one person to do alone). Shiplap I agree comes in usually 4 to 5 inch wide pieces and has the "scoop" moulded out of the top...

    Featheredge

Hi all Anyone know where I can buy pressure treated soft wood featheredge for workshop cladding? I'm after 8 inch wide boards with a rebate at the bottom, so they sit flat against the subframe. Once the first board is on the rebate of the next sits on top and it goes on much quicker and easier...

    Spindle taper on pillar drills

Thanks for all the quick replies. So it doesn't really matter I guess, I've looked at ones that are MT/2 and MT/3, just didn't want to invest in something I later regretted through ignorance Cheers guys Mark

    Spindle taper on pillar drills

Hi all I'm looking at investing in a pillar drill. Can anyone explain the relevance of the spindle taper for the chuck, usually given as MT/2, MT/3 etc? Cheers Mark

    engineers vice needed

Hi You could try Sarah from the charity that was doing the old Iroko science benches and old woodworking benches. She had a few when I was there though not sure what size they were. They were Records and in quite good nick. Mark

    Oak Stained by Iron

Thanks for the replies Think I'll try the Oxalic acid route first as I just want to remove the worst staining. These beams are open to the elements so I am happy with some "character" and there are too many to want to bleach everything Pekka thanks for the practical advice on how to use the...

    Oak Stained by Iron

Hi all Bit of a follow on from a question I asked last week. I have had some big oak beams delivered from the mill that have sat on iron tressels. Where they have been in contact the oak has gone black. I understand that there is an acid (or other chemical?) that can be applied to remove the...

    Featheredge cladding

Guys Thanks for all the replies, sorry for the delay in replying. I am not bothered about seeing the nail heads at all, I'd already decided to nail bottom only, letting the board above clamp the top down. This means they will be held top and bottom yet the board can still move without...
