Sparks no.70 plane and a very nice vice.

Thanks for mentioning Carl... I was wondering where all the site traffic was coming from !! Dead right Richard, it's a beauty to behold but even better to use. Very pleased with my choose there. May I mention I did actually pay the asking for that plane, the fact Oliver has been...

A new way to make draw boxes

a friend sent me that link, it's a clever profile. he doesn't say how much the custom dado stack cost him, and we don't use dados on Tsaws over here (do we??!) but a custom router bit or spindle cutter may get there. Good for low-cost volume I imagine.

Front vise position - opinions needed

interesting question, the tradition appears to be if you are right-handed, face goes to left (and v.v.), but I can think of advantages to placing it at far right (I'm right-handed). I suppose tail/wagojn vice then woul;d go at left and that might be inconvenient. I'll be interested to see...

    Burgess BK3 bandsaw repair

Very smart Andy. I'm still struggling with my BBS20, I need the high speed wheel and pinion etc, not easy to find I think (except if I buy a whole new/old saw). Then the guides need some work, I think the BK3 guides are better. Like your pillar drill; a lot too, very nice looker =D>

HELP! Wood finishing advice for wedding

I would like to recommend tung oil. Readily available, wipe on, hardens very well and is food safe (I believe most oils are anyway). I get better results by thinning first coat about 2:1 with oil/turps. You can build as far as you like but a couple of coats will do it and be semi-matt, a few...

    Workbench - some assembly required.

Excellent... not frugal but a great bench. You will enjoy the RM bits, the wagon vice is a gem. Pleased to see flush front. Very deep at 30", everything is personal taste though. Are you left-handed? I ask because the norm is face vice to left end. But a while ago I did a bench that happened to...

    Back in Sawmaking

To be honest Klaus, if I wanted one of your saws and you told me the only wood I could have was ebony, I'd just have to make do with that then. I'd feel slightly better if it had a nice MoP inlay in there I suppose. (English irony  )

    plane adjusting hammers

Excellent responses thank you all. It can't really be the dayglo deadblow or fablon, there was a clue in the OP re lumps of bronze and gunmetal. I'm happy generally with the bigger mallet I use for the woodies, so this is for the smaller smoothers of various types. There's quite a bit in common...

    plane adjusting hammers

Wow, this is getting good!! The hard nylon infill is a very practical idea Derek. And Klaus has gone to the trouble to have the flats on the centre of head. These hammers say a lot about the owners/makers =D> =D> Klaus, has the ebony behaved OK?, I would have been slightly concerned of it's...

    plane adjusting hammers

I have some nice hex and round stock of brass, bronze and gunmetal. I want to make a new plane hammer some time. I currently use a lignum one I made but could do with a bit more mass. On my travels I've seen many variants in use - I know without doubt mine will have a short shaft (maybe...

    Modifying woodies

an update is due I feel  Only been a couple of years, what's the problem? So, a cheap late woodie jack. The aim: to change the ergonomics to see how it may feel and handle. To make myself a decent scrub, or maybe not... Front and back were dropped, add a new rear handle/tote (walnut...

    Back in Sawmaking

Back where you belong Klaus!! Excellent news for you and the World generally :D And as always, truly stunning saws. p.s. wasn't it the cocobolo that started the problem in the beginning? And I'd always blamed it on Jim's cocobolo dt saw

There are shavings and then there are SHAVINGS!!

Excellent Graham, I shall carry on with Briwax on the woodies and I am a regular squiggler with the candle on the steel or bronze planes.

There are shavings and then there are SHAVINGS!!

danger of drifting off-topic here, but question for Graham. Saw the woodie smoother video, excellent and I was pleased that broadly I do most/all of that. But do you ever put anything on the sole once flattened? I have used hard Briwax before - partly to help reduce wear (if it actually does...

    All for a screwdriver

I expect they'll look a lot like mine Jim? btw, is there actually anything left in the WH catalogue you have missed   Just wondering... why the adoption of the perfect pattern for these? They are not for striking or opening tins or removing rusty sods. I do like them and they feel...

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

re guides PDR- given the gear you have available bearing guides will be easy to do I expect, but I run lignum guides for my 260 - for lateral support. Mine is unmodified so uses the side thrust bearing for back supports above and below. Not sure what a 205 has, probably the same? As a quick fix...

    All for a screwdriver

(never a dead thread!)... Just got a set of the perfect handle cabinet screwdrivers from Workshop Heaven. These: Not tried them yet but needed some parallel drivers for ages and these look excellent - nicely made (in China, for Chestnut Tools Canada). Excellent value I think. I'm very...

Wadkin Time Warp Workshop - Kent

Thanks for all the great pics - the Wadkins are all stunners. Love that one Jack - if I had one I would feel sorely tempted to strip off all the guarding just to show it off! The Scothbrite video is great too, I'll try that on my T'saw table some time. Excellent work all =D> =D>

    A Pair of Scrubbers

Excellent work Richard - don't know many who would take the scrub plane to such engineering highs  The use of the window bolt as a rack and pinion source is typically resourcful! As you know I had been modifying an old jack to create a scrub, but for the third time couldn't bring myself...
