Wadkin Time Warp Workshop - Kent

Sorry Jim, didn't answer!! - no couldn't do the Sunday or Monday so left them to it  But judging by the stuff on the truck they did fine... though I didn't notice the main shaft in there?? I was hoping I might get a chance to help recover that anyway. I may be regarded as a complete...

Wadkin Time Warp Workshop - Kent

As promised more pics of the first day, getting the machines out. The planer came first, and the first is often the hardest. They were all bolted down of course (8" high tensile at a guess) but had been bedded onto wet mortar on installation, and the mortar was a very strong mix of lime and fine...

Wadkin Time Warp Workshop - Kent

A quick taster of the move weekend. Day one (Friday) Richard and Kevin arrive in the truck plus trailer, with some useful gear onboard. 1] If Maguire made saw horses they would probably... 2] Same goes for the scrap for packing... 3] The very first machine sees the first direct sunlight in...

    Yet more bandsaw questions

Hi Mick - it's been said before but do please consider a second-hand one. Good bandsaws are quite basic things and haven't evolved at all over decades, if anything they have been 'value-engineered' to get cost down. The 730 looks a lot of machine but the compromise has to be in precision and...

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

Yes Gerard - may be a Kity. It has no maker name anywhere I can find, but is type '0413' pointing to Kity. In many respects it seems to be a mirror-image Inca 205, but indirect drive via toothed belt. It's in deparate need of a blade but runs lovely - very smooth, quiet. I think it has big...

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

This gets more confusing possibly, as there is the Inca 260 to consider also, which is certainly bigger than the 205. And all those dimensions Gerard are a LOT like the ones on a bandsaw I just picked up that is not an Inca, but is European, does have a cast ali main casing, is not direct drive...

    For candles

didn't know where to put this, but looking for someone who makes candles in short runs. Not fork handles. South East may be handy but anywhere UK great, I stress quite short runs, I'm thinking cast beeswax maybe. Any help greatly appreciated.

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

Another one cropped up, a Euro 205: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280857632704? ... 528wt_1355 Looks nice and straight. Not for me this one - I have found an interesting precision bandsaw and will report later  Inca question - does the number denote the wheel dia in mm?? Or is it more...

Wadkin Time Warp Workshop - Kent

The big machine move is scheduled this coming weekend. Richard and Helen have launched a 'blog' and all progress will be reported there with pics. I'm certain Jim will keep this thread updated too, but the blog is well worth bookmarking anyway as it has a few other gems within...

Anyone with a planer/thickenser in Mid Sussex?

Not quite that close but happily sort them. Let me know (pm) if any good - Sevenoaks.

    Victorian chair steps - WIP

Absolutely ace! - hardly a hand tool you haven't used yet? The profiles will show up nicely once a finish goes on I suspect. And a slight relief to see a cordless charger under the bench there :D

    old wood vice

thanks Andy, turps it is. And turns out the nut is beech... under the muck. Had a closer look today, the rebate for the garter is only 1" back from the boss bearing face, and I want a thicker leg so another internal garter required. If time was money I'd be skint.

    old wood vice

I think that's right Andy - it looks manufactured rather than one-off shop made. Mine is overall 24", screw section about 17", screw dia is 2 1/4" - similar and probably about that vintage. i think it's going to go on the newer small bench - a leg-vice rebuild to remove the old York screw and...

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

Just a thought - i don't have an Inca (they keep dissappearing  ) - but I'm wondering about the vibrations. Sounds like every step you have reduced them, but is it likely the source is back at the beginning? I mean it won't be the motor, is unlikely to be the drive pulley, is likely to be...

Inca Euro 205 Bandsaw photos added

Hi Bob - I think Mark's post earlier (first page here) re the previous thread will help. It did cover wheel alignment I recall. Hope you get it well-sorted. Meanwhile, turns out Incas are like buses. there's another just popped up. I do feel prices are getting a little heady, so I won't bother...

    old wood vice

That's right Mike - I'll keep the bits for interest sake, but it's just the screw and nut I wanted. the entire leg and vice face plus guide would be made new, hardwoods. And yes, I did get a spot of bother for that 'still life' shot. But I took it in my half of the house

    Sun loggia

Update - roof timbers on, tgv underlay half done. The tgv happens to look grey... I slapped some Sadolins classic on it and just happened to have some grey lying around. The underside will be painted Sadolins Supadec satin 'Hemlock'. I used hemlock before on a cabinet carcase with oak top and...

    old wood vice

Yes, I have been considering a shaving horse for quite a while now. Saw a plan somewhere of one that knocks down for storage, as they do take up quite a bit of space. I reckon they can be very useful for a lot of work, not just chairs and round things. Anyway, this vice will be carefully cleaned...

    old wood vice

It's arrived Dean!! Have pm'd you but not certain they are getting through just now. There was a bit of teamwork to this one - Jim found it on ebay, I won it for a tenner (no other bidders), then due to a confusion in the listing, DeanN kindly offered to collect for me and ship it. here it is...

    Bargain forstner bits

an update on the Screwfix ones, as I have used them quite a bit recently. I tend to get a tiny bit of surface rust - not so at all with the expensive Freuds or any other tools in the workshop which I consider to be dry. Not a problem but noted. The swarf removal tends to clog, and I cannot...
