    Dw1150 planer

I have one, there isn't much to add to the comprehensive review by Fitzroy - all of which I agree with! I purchased mine secondhand from a forum member off here and its done all I needed it to do. I planed up all the rough sawn tulip wood and oak for my kitchen build which I documented here, I...

    Router with best dust extraction

I have a Festool OF1400 and the dust extraction with the shroud fitted is very very good.

    Who makes decent kitchens?

Handmade Kitchens Direct are local to me - they also trade as Christchurch Kitchens - I had a good look around their new showroom when I was researching making my own kitchen and what they offer is of a high standard, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

    Buying a Tracksaw

Misses just bought me a 3m rail yesterday as a birthday present! lol - I was getting fed up joining the two shorter ones when breaking down large sheet material. Used it today to rip a sheet of ply into strips for wag tails and covers to close the weight boxes off on the sash windows I've just...

    Sash Windows

Yes I agree all sorts of odd things can happen in bay windows! lol Although this large header to the frame happens in every room with or without a bay window, I think there must be a timber lintel higher up as Scholar mentions, as the internal course of bricks continues above the windows -...

    Sash Windows

But what is the internal course of bricks resting on if there is no lintel? This is the pic of an original window that I removed and there is structural ability for it to be load bearing itself. I removed it a few years ago and can’t remember what was above it 😐

    Sash Windows

Thanks for that Scholar, yes you are right - they are perfect for blinds - maybe this was the original intention!

    Sash Windows

Hi Robin, thanks for that! - when you say there is no lintel to the internal wall, surely there must be as the brickwork continues upwards internally into the first floor above - the pics I took are the grand floor.

    Sash Windows

Jacob, yes, most of the other houses around here from that era have casement windows - all the houses are very different though and were built by different architects of the day - although all built around the same time! On the outside - ie behind the really deep top rail it’s finished with - I...

    Sash Windows

Hi Rusty, I did use wedged mortice and tenons for each joint except for the top rail of the bottom sash which is still a mortice and tenon but that one is dowelled rather than wedged as the amount of materiel above it is so marginal that it would probably break out as you knocked the wedge in -...

    Floating stairs

That’s going to look impressive - please post pics as you progress! sorry can’t help you with supplier advice, but have you considered getting the fabricated to your own specification, I guess each section is simply a repeat of the previous one... might not cost as much as you think of you find...

    Knob for bandsaw

Male seeks knob... thought I was on the wrong website for a moment! sorry, childish I know 😞

    Sash Windows

So one question I’ve got for the knowledgable or even those wishing to speculate 😀 - what is the thinking on why the top rail of the box sash frame is so deep??? It leaves a big space above the window that I think looks really odd and aesthetically is not what I would choose to have designed at...

    Sash Windows

Finished these three sash windows now, enjoyed making them, they are an exact copy of the existing windows in the house. Accoya was very nice to work with, my only slight criticism of it is that it’s quite brittle, but I’m sure all the positives far outweigh that factor. just got to paint...

    Dewalt planer blades

Ive used the Appleby blades on my older Dewalt DW1150 and I can reassure you that the quality is absolutely fine - sorry I can't tell you whether they fit for sure - but I do suspect that do fit - but seek a bit more reassurance on that front before you buy! Maybe message the seller!

    Router table tear out

You only need a piece in front because you are cutting with the full width of the cutter - so as you start your cut you in effect have a point where the cutter enters the timber which is where you have zero tear out and then a point where the cutter exits the timber which is where you are seeing...

    Sash Windows

Mr Rusty - I've used Sadolin Superdec on my windows before and still have half a tin left, so I'm planning on using that - unless someone tells me its not compatible with Accoya... I'll brush it on rather than spray. I understand the arguments for draught proofing, but don't really see the...

    Sash Windows

Thanks for that Jacob, I have made a sash window once before, it was may first real project - but I have forgotten what tolerance i used - and whatever I used is a little tight between the beads for my liking, so just wanted to get that right this time.

    Sash Windows

I’m in the midst of making 3 sash windows out of rough sawn Accoya, to a tradition design - i’m basically copying off some existing so I’m not using any modern methods of draught proofing. I’ve made the 3 sash box frames and I’m about to start preparing the timber for the sashes. My questions...
