    Charnwood W650 Router Table...

Good luck with holding a component against a push pad and then running the end grain across the cutter - I wouldn't fancy it, plus you'd struggle to keep it square. This is the sled I use; This allows the fixture to miss the cutter as it stops short of the fence. If you run on the fence you...

    Charnwood W650 Router Table...

The thing you need the mitre slot for is cutting the scribed tenons on the ends of frame sections when doing cope and stick frame joinery. I you don't do that, then fair enough, but I can't imagine how else you'd do it without the slot. Ed

Latest KT Tools Prototype - Cutting Gauge

At the time I used Axminster, part number 600457, £2.30 each but it appears that doesn't exist any more. Veritas are prob your best bet. I did make some myself in A2, but the time it took wasn't worth it when you consider the cost to buy in. Ed

Latest KT Tools Prototype - Cutting Gauge

I did, here they are; I actually favour a more simple traditional design for my own use. It makes use of a scalpel blade for the cutter, which is obviously disposable for convenience and you can also put a pencil in the same hole and adjust the clamp bolt to suit; These were the subject...

Marking dovetails .. with a difference!

I made one some years ago, following the card scraper notion, but putting a handle on it so you can hit it. Best of both worlds in my view. The scraper is the right thickness to match my dovetail saw kerf. Very easy, very quick and very cheap. Ed

    Small Tenon Saw

I'd be interested to know what has changed Peter. The current handles look so god awful they put me off what are probably otherwise good saws at a good price. Ed

    Sagging router insert plate

I've got the same issue with the same router plate. Mine has a DW626 underneath and the weight is evidently just too much. I am planning an upgrade to a lifter type metal plate in due course. I had the same accuracy issues with tenons and some additonal bracing provided a short term solution...

    Record No.7

Now I'm back home and have checked again, it was actually 0.05 (the thinnest in my set of feeler gauges) so even better! Ed NB - I thought I saw a post from Rob earlier, but it seems to have gone now, not quite sure what's going on there.

    Record No.7

Nice to know you are maintaining standards of pedantry at UKW Bugbear. Of course you're right, I'm sure I meant 0.15 not 0.015. The straightedge is a steel Veritas which claims to be accurate to 0.001", which will do for me. To be honest, I was just trying to observe that the sole was...

    Record No.7

After months of unsuccessful eBay searching, I located a nice Record No.7 at Tony Murlands, which arrived today. Turns out to be a war finish plane, which for something around 70 years old is in excellent condition. I checked the sole with a straight edge and feeler gauges and there is a...

    Lee Valley Wenzloff saws

Does anyone have experience of the range of Wenzloff saws that Lee Valley do? I have read loads of good things about Mikes saws, but the waiting list puts me, off hence the question, as they appear to be in stock at Lee Valley. Are they as good, but just without the option to personalise? I am...

The Anarchist's Tool Chest, Christopher Schwarz

Just to clarify, the idea of having only the tools you need is just one concept discussed in the book. It's about loads of other stuff as well, so it would be a gross over simplification to judge the book on the basis that this is all he has to say. Ed
