    Interesting saw reading

Just read this on Joels blog a TFWW, which I found quite interesting; http://toolsforworkingwood.com/Merchant ... gpage.html Enjoy, Ed

Wanted no more band saw picked up today - pics

No mine was the AP-5300, which is quite a bit bigger. As it happens, the one shown wasn't on offer when I bought mine, I think even if it had been I would stick with the one I got as its superb (gone up quite a lot since I bought in the pre-price rise with 10% off though). Cheers, Ed

Dewalt 703, Are they any good

I've had a DW703 for about 7 years now and its still as good as when I bought it. Very robust and accurate, not the biggest capacity but I've not found it lacking too often. I can't remember what I paid for mine, but I think it was in the region of £350 (7 years ago) so I would say you got a...

    scary sharp ?

No, I get the whole coded reference to previous barred members and their views (which unbelievably still creates discussion here even though it was 2 years ago) I was actually talking about the technique. For all I know this might be the individual concerned, but it may also be a new poster...

    scary sharp ?

At the risk of taking this thread off topic  , although I don't personally do it I can't actually see a problem with a convex rounded bevel. If you are honing freehand (which I also don't do) I imagine its an easy way of creeping up to the formation of a wire edge. Or am I missing...

    Whatever Happened to Norm Abram?

I love handtools and enjoy, as a hobby, learning and perfecting hand skills. I also happen to think that in a lot of situations handtools are quicker and/or do a better job, HOWEVER.... I am convinced that had power tools been available to them, the old furnituremakers of times gone by would...

    Beaded Face Frames

I've wondered in the past how router tables are seen in a commercial environment, from a safety perspective. I use mine regularly in a hobby environment, but it always strikes me that the upturned exposed cutter would be an issue if you applied PUWER rules. Ed

    Mobile Clamp Rack

I like it - I have considered something similar in the past, as I spend a lot of time carrying clamps to and fro between my assembly table and clamp storage area. Is it reasonably stable when you roll it around? I have yet to get beyond the piece of 2X4 screwed to the wall - I did it the day I...

    Trade or DIY?

I think over time the term DIY has acquired the inference of badly done work and is therefore generally taken as a negative. Shame really, given that it originates (as we all know) from the revolution of doing things yourself rather than relying on tradesmen to do everything, which is an...

    New router.

I'd definitely stick with your thoughts on going with DeWalt. I have 2 and think they are brilliant, whereas the Trend ones I have used have been total crap in comparison. Cheers, Ed

    burr walnut jewlery box (wip)

Looks like a beautiful box, with some excellent veneering work - you should be delighted with that end result. One criticism if I may, is that the red lining looks awful to my eye - far too gaudy, and yet for some reason loads of people use red felt inside jewellery boxes. Maybe its just me...

    LV Dovetail saw

Same here, but for £36 I was almost thinking of getting it just to see what its like :D Cheers, Ed

    Preferred excess glue removal technique?

I quite often use a very thin and flexible 6" steel rule to scrape the glue out of corners when still wet. Works very well. The trouble with wet cloths is that you end up with gluey water everywhere, in the grain and so on, which sometimes makes more mess than you have cleaned up. Cheers, Ed

You want Brusso for the ultimate jewellery box hinges in my view. The above are JB-102's from Classic Hand Tools. Cheers, Ed

    axminster ts 200 fence

If its the same as my Kity 419 (which I think it is) then the adjustment for parallel is with the rail across the front within the slotted holes. Cheers, Ed

My bench grinding disaster - please help?

I have a Tormek and personally find getting a perfectly square edge on this is not foolproof. It still requires careful technique to get the result you want. Theres play in the Tormek fixtures just the same as other brands, so they are not the panacea to all sharpening issues that they are...
