    Axminster ADE1200 Extractor

Yes, I've had mine for about 7 years and its still going strong. Its only good for chip extraction off a planer or thicknesser. For fine dust type applications its not going to do much for you. Seems to have gone up in price quite a bit since I got mine, so it may not still be the best value for...

    400 Wood Boxes

I have it and find it a useful visual resource. Personally I often just look at the pictures in furniture (and cookery) books and find my own way of doing something based on the visual inspiration. I can read (honest) but I'm not a great one for following other peoples plans. I would get the...

    Brown Oak and Cherry Cabinet

A very clean looking piece - I like it a lot. Has some shades of Krenovian influence in there, which I like. I also think you have photographed it very well, which makes a massive difference to how a piece comes across when not seeing it in the flesh. Nice one, Cheers, Ed

Another machine, Another dilemma (Look away Lurker)

Without that back rail how will you hold the router table top up? Just a thought. Ed

    Quality screwdrivers

I have a couple of sets of Facom screwdrivers, mainly because my local independant toolshop in Derby sells them, and they have always been good. More aimed at automotive uses I think, but that doesn't seem to make them any less of a screwdriver for woodworking. Cheers, Ed

    Sourcing Fireback Material.

If its not a daft question Tom, why don't you just use the cast iron top you are selling in another thread - surely thats got to be better than a bit of laminate? Just wondered... Ed.

Combi's - How much do I need to spend?

I'm sure there is good and bad in Stanley stuff and I'm also sure that the older ones are probably better. The one I'm referring to is the one Steve linked to in his OP. Cheers, Ed

    "Nicholson" Workbench

Looks like a nice bench - well done. Ref the infringing Schwartz's intellectual property I think you're probably fairly safe here. I have read several WIP's of his Roubo bench on Woodnet and no-one seems to bothered about IP infringements. Cheers, Ed

Combi's - How much do I need to spend?

Steve I have had the Stanley one for years and its crap. The locking mechanism just doesn't work well and the rule is badly finished. If it was a tool I used regularly I'd replace it with a better one, but mine doesn't get a great deal of use. Generally for this type of basic tools I consider...

    Karl Holtey - flattenning

I'm no engineer, so I'm not going to enter the debate about the pro's and con's of the various methods of surface flattening. I have however dabbled in minor bits of toolmaking enough to realise that the products that Karl outputs are achieving unbelievable levels of accuracy and finish compared...

    Karl Holteys Blog

I thought someone had already posted on this, but when I searched I couldn't find it, so apologies if this is duplication. Karl Holtey has started a blog on his site and the content is fascinating. http://www.holteyplanes.com/blog/ I find the engineering and levels of precision going into the...

    tenon saws............

I use a LN carcase saw at the moment and am in the market for a tenon saw. Personally I am quite interested in the new 16" LN, which according to Chris Schwartz is good. Not sure if its available in the UK yet. Ed

Dust extraction - bandsaw and tablesaw

Yes, based on the various threads recently, including yours, I'm sure its the right machine for my application. I'm planning to keep my ADE1200 for the P/T and swap hoses to share the camvac between the tablesaw and bandsaw. As you suggest, I may go to a plumbed in system at some point. If I...

    Bandsaw Advice

I have previously owned a Basato 3 and sold it to another forum member (Boz) as I wanted more capacity. The Scheppach bandsaws are OK and pretty good value for money, but now I have my Axminster 5300 I realise what it should really be like to use a bandsaw. The difference is amazing and I...
