    Ed's new tablesaw

Well, she arrived on Tuesday but I've had a mad week at work handing over a project that just finished, so only just got it all assembled. The saw is an Axminster AW10BSB2. Assembly is not a 5 minute job, so has taken a couple of evenings and then most of yesterday to get it done. I'm...

    Tom's Tool Chest - Finished!

A can of lighter fuel is an essential workshop item in my view, and will quickly remove most sticky adhesives very easily, plus you can buy it from the newsagents! Ed

    Ye Olde Kentish Bash ** 6th March 2010 **

I know exactly what you mean, I get up at 5:30 every day and drive a thousand miles most weeks, so when it comes to the weekends I find it hard to imaging going anywhere much. Ed

    kity 419 - seriouslly impressed

Sounds like a plan, I'll make a note in my diary  Looking at that picture of the Kity 619, it appears that it is probably the 'inspiration' for the Axminster saw I am waiting for, in the same way as the 419 'inspired' the TS200. New saw tomorrow - yay!:D Ed

    Scheppach HMS 260 setup

If you contact NMA Agencies they have a secret sheet of set up tips that never shipped with the machine that help massively. Is there something in particular that you are struggling with? Ed

    Your Hand Tool Wish List

For someone who doesn't give a monkeys about it, you have a surprisingly large amount to say, hence my earlier comment in this thread. Ed

    kity 419 - seriouslly impressed

Excellent news Pete- glad you're happy with it. You've also confirmed what I suspected; that the Axi clone is not the same. I've read the issues people had with the Axi and didn't really get it as I never had an issue with the Kity. Just hope my new Axi saw is OK when it arrives on Tuesday...

Oh Herr Aldi, you are spoiling us!

I went to buy the electric hoist and its sold out at both of my local Aldi branches. What I did notice on the bigger picture on the poster in the shop is that the hoist doesn't have a clamp to attach to the flange of a lifting beam, it just has a couple of flat brackets that would need 2 holes...

    Sapwood/ heartwood

Well funnily enough when I saw the thread I knew you'd be in here first... I almost didn't bother as even I'm bored of saying the same things every time this comes up  Ed

    Your Hand Tool Wish List

I have several planes and a good number of chisels all in A2 and they seem to work perfectly well to me. I suspect the recurring frequency of the A2 Vs O1 debate is more to do with the liking of the protagonists to churn over the same issues to see who they can get a rise out of, rather than...

    Sapwood/ heartwood

Ah well thats the point, the use of sapwood unintentionally may not be desirable, but used knowingly as a design element of the piece it can make a massive contribution. We work with a natural material that has variation and quirks, to try and reduce it back to a homogenous, even coloured...

    Woodwork podcasts

Hmm, the ease of producing video footage and uploading it to the net is a worry in a way as there is no vetting system for bad advice. As a novice 15 years ago the internet was far less developed and consequently most of the advice I got was from books, which have at least had some sort of...

    Jet JTS 600

I would say so, but as I said the table doesn't actually show 3X2, so I took the next nearest and because your span is half what the 4X2 does I reckon it will be OK. The other thing to bear in mind is that the 1.5Kn (150KG) per m2 is a UDL (Uniformly Distributed Load) which is a hypothetical...

    Jet JTS 600

The Approved Doc A tables don't go as small as 3X2, but the nearest; 4X2 will give you 1.5Kn/m2 UDL at 400 centres with a 1.9m span. So with a bit of approximation, you have a smaller size but half the span, so you could probably get the same load; i.e. 150 KG/m2. Ed

    Jet JTS 600

What construction were you planning? My floor is 8X2's at 400 centres, which I am confident will be OK with the saw, based on the Part A joist tables, as the span is only a couple of metres where the saw is going. Ed

New workshop .......yes, I have stopped dithering

Provided you get the right plant, you can pump that - I have pumped concrete to the top of a 16 storey building before now without issue, but it is a substantial piece of kit. The bigger issue will be that the pipes will still be full of concrete and needing to be emptied into the pour at the...

    Jet JTS 600

I think you're probably right about the lack of substance and heft Alan, which may be down to the smaller size of the saw. Its certainly not comparable to the Jet Supersaw for solidity. One of the things I looked closely at was the fence, which is mounted on a large casting and seemed good to...

    Jet JTS 600

Thats fine Rob - you did ask for opinions but it sounds as though you already know the answer to your question; if it fits all your requirements then its the saw for you. Ed

    Jet JTS 600

Not used one, but had a good close look at one at Axminster. If you are thinking of it as a replacement for the Kity 419 I',m not sure you gain anything on capacity as its still a 200mm blade. It has a very limited ripping capacity with the fence as well. It felt like good quality, but just...
